Flynn was an excellent field commander who never should have gotten a third star. He could not handle the bureaucracy out of a field situation and managed poorly, which is why Obama sacked him (and rightfully so).

I think perhaps the only reason Trump hired him in the first place was BECAUSE Flynn had been fired by Obama.

Flynn deserves every military accolade he has earned, but he did not serve his country well in any executive branch role.

You are letting him off WAY too easy. This guy had also had a very clear and problematic history of promoting ridiculous conspiracy theories, nepotism, promotion of hateful anti-Muslim and anti-semitic rhetoric, and a troubled relationship with the truth. He was tailor-made for this administration.

First off, he wasn't "my guy".

Second, I wasn't following it (Flynn's problems) all that closely. So until I read the AP article about his stepping down, there wasn't much to go on that was confirmed by anyone other than "anonymous sources".

Third, I'm not defending the guy or Trump's staff. If, as it appears, that Flynn mislead the administration's staff in the way the article describes, then he (Flynn) should have resigned. In fact he should have walked away a month ago when the Justice Dept. report came out.

Why he didn't then is a matter of speculation.

Personally I don't care.

He (Flynn) fucked up. He resigned (or was probably asked to step down).

End of story as far as I'm concerned.

The question now is, what and when did everyone else know that Flynn was running wild.

Yates probably knew, but as a professional public servant could say nothing. Pence by definition didn't know, did Trump? Bannon? anyone else on that security committee? The services guys that were excluded must be laughing their socks off.

Heaps of guys in various security roles probably know bits and pieces of the story. This is bound to leak - or be used by the pros to beat Trump's amateurs into line.
