In a stunning reversal which thwarts the will of the people, Republicans in South Dakota (that's a state for our European friends) have overturned a law which would have created an ethics commission, limited gifts by lobbyists to elected officials, banned officials from joining lobbying firms for two years after leaving office and created so-called "Democracy vouchers" for registered voters to steer toward their preferred candidates.

Republicans said they didn't think the people knew what they were doing and according to one Republican lawmaker who gleefully voted for the measure, claimed the public had been "hoodwinked by scam artists who grossly misrepresented these proposed measures."

Even better, the way this measure was passed, the people of South Dakota are prevented from garnering a new referendum to overturn this.

Moral of the story: when a con artist gets less than 50% of the popular vote it's a mandate. When 51% of the people vote for a measure to crack down on political corruption, they don't know what they're doing.

Love that socialism!!! :D

Isn't the big powerful government WONDERFUL!!!!

BTW, seeing as the people put those republicans there, it's not really thwarting the will of the people.

Republicans - party of the people .
As long as they are the 1 % .
