‘This is about white supremacists’: Rula Jebreal erupts at Jonathan Turley for defending Trump’s ban

Foreign policy analyst Rula Jebreal asserted on Sunday that President Donald Trump’s travel ban targeting Muslims was more about white supremacy than protecting the national security of the United States.

On CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS program, constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley predicted that courts would not overturn the bulk of Trump’s executive order banning travel from seven majority-Muslim countries.

“The law does favor President Trump in this regard,” Turley explained. “I don’t like this order, I think it’s a mistake. But that doesn’t go into the legal analysis. The court has been extremely deferential to presidents on the border.”

“I do not believe a federal court will view this as a Muslim ban,” he predicted. “I don’t think the court can, regardless of what the court may think of President Trump’s motivations. The fact that other Muslim countries are not included is going to move that off the table.”

Turley is correct there are many ways to fight this order but falling back on racism is a losing argument. It is not providing equal rights under the law, it is a failure to follow the law and it is arguably an impeachable offense, but to harp about racism is to loose sight of the winning arguments.

Stick to the winning strategy, sure it is founded in the racist tendencies of Uberfurer Bannon, but he is a sly devil and left a weasel hole in the order. Concentrate on winning the argument on defensible grounds and not emotional ones. One must be cold blooded when in court like the other lawyers.

I can see the point taking great care in vetting who we let in and who we don't--I worked on that for a couple of decades. But A, we do do vetting (or at least we were doing it before Trump started tossing folks who have been doing it out of the window with his nonsense), and B clueless people get involved in this. Just as Bush the Lesser went after the wrong people after 9/11, Trump the Vile is targeting all of the wrong people (which seems to be those who aren't doing business with his family at the moment--the biggest cache of terrorists are--and always have been--Saudis or those financed by the Saudis. Fortunately for them, the Trump family wants to do business in Saudi Arabia).

There have been zero incidents of terrorist acts on U.S. soil by those in the countries fingered (and, guess why--mostly because we already vet and track unsavories pretty well--or were doing so before Trump started dumping on the intelligence and diplomatic communties). On the other hand, with access to guns rampant in the United States and with plenty of domestic loonies--more by the day, with Trump's help--the terrorists are right here.
