In the past few years, I have observed them becoming increasingly vicious, intolerant and nasty. Some are even violent. I watch CNBC and CNN and the venom toward not just Trump, but to anyone who is not in their camp is disturbing.

I don't remember them being like this during GWB. Certainly they disagreed with him and his party, but it was far more polite than it is now. They where the traditional "Loyal Opposition". Well, I also very much disagreed with GWB. So at the time I was more aligned with Liberals. I always keep my independent mindset and Liberals seemed OK with that. But now I am afraid of them and how they will treat me if I voice any disagree with them.

With Obama, I think he was a good president overall. But something happen to Liberals during his watch. I really don't think it was due to anything he did personally. They where running the show, getting much of what they want. Yet they seemed more and more discontent as time went on. I am not sure why. The normal change of power every eight years no longer applies. They are absolutely outraged that they are out of power. Perhaps a Lit Liberal can explain this to me.

I’m on my way out the door but I’ll answer your question as to why we find him intolerable after a week. That has a lot to do with his cabinet of incompetents and far right extremist and his far right agenda. I don’t think that a lot of people who voted for him want to pay for a wall. They are starting to see that he is a bullshit artist. He’s going to build a wall, rebuild the infrastructure, build the military and cut taxes. He’s a salesman. He can’t deliver.

Republicans who didn't care that he was the first candidate in 40 years to not release his taxes despite his extensive overseas business

It is difficult from the other side of the Atlantic to understand the hatred that many Republicans and many Democrats have for each other.

Of course it isn't ALL Republicans and ALL Democrats but the rhetoric against the other side is brutal and vicious. In the UK we have people who hate Conservative or Labour but they are small minorities and generally much less virulent. The antagonism towards Mrs Thatcher was the closest we have ever been to the sort of hatred now expressed daily in the US.

Our politicians in the House of Commons have to work with someone from the opposite party. They have to find a "pair" who will agree to be absent when the other is absent so that the relative size of voting blocs is maintained. Of course they will disagree on some policies but they can also cooperate if they agree.

Apart from Prime Minister's Question time which is a weekly ritual theatrical event most debates are civilised in and out of the House of Commons. Politicians have respect for each other, or at least most of each other.

The other difference is fundamental. Although we have party political meetings in constituencies, they are nothing like the US system of mass meetings of supporters for possible Presidential candidates. Our Head of State is Her Majesty the Queen. Our Prime Minister is chosed by the political party with the largest number of Members of Parliament. The Prime Minister can be changed without a single member of the public being involved therefore there aren't months of argument and acromonious splits in public. In private? That's different and can be compared to gang warfare but discreet warfare. The knives are metaphorical but just as deadly to a political career.

My advice which is useless because no one will take it: Americans should stop hating each other because of labels. You have more in common than your differences.

I'm American and have been watching this mostly from the sidelines. Politics has only become interesting to me within the last few years. But I don't ever recall the extreme partisanship we're dealing with these days. I'm afraid to talk to people about politics because I don't want to be branded as "US" or "THEM." We're ALL Americans.

There's plenty of blame to go around. Some are blaming the largest group, Democrats, for our new asshole-in-chief, because not enough of them voted or they were too complacent. Others blame the GOP for having idiot leaders to choose from. Some blame third parties or foreign interests. Then we get down to individuals like Comey, Putin, Sanders or Podesta.

Myself, I think AJ is entirely to blame.
