This will not be seen as a victory for people of color, I assure you. So, what's the point? I don't particularly care but I have a feeling this is going to create more problems than it helps.

SJWs will somehow find this to be racist. Is this cultural appropriation? What about the Native Americans? What about the Hispanic people?

I just know that this is going to backfire in some way. SJWs will ninja the shit out of this and make it "oppressing."

Goddamn it. I spelled "portrayed" wrong. Well have fun with that.

Oh, I didn't know I can edit titles. Cool. I spelled it "portraid" at first for some derp reason.

What's really funny is that black women are almost entirely liberty hating leftist.

He hates anyone who exercises their right to free speech that does not agree with him. If you don't agree with him your just a progressive and a liberal.

Nice to see a woman of 'colour' on a coin. 'bout time. POTUS in America these days are black, white or orange. Very progressive and liberal the Yanks are electing blacks and oranges to high office.

I'm surprised there's not more of a shitstorm about this going on. Maybe Yahoo!News was just super early in catching this piece? I dunno.

Wasn't there a gold coin $1 out that was discontinued? People still talk about collecting them.

You're about 16 years too late for the American Indian lady on a US coin. I don't remember a big problem with this. I'm just glad we never had a coin featuring anyone named 'King' because that would have been co-opted to be MLK like so many other times was done to appease the highly vocal minority trying to push some black agenda.

HAHAHA... It's usually the liberal whiners that hate and denounce anyone who doesn't agree with their agenda. Nice try throwing it back though. Not.

Until about eight years ago, it's always been white men. For the next week, we have a 50/50 mix of black and white. The next is white. Calling Trump a cheeto was kinda funny for a while, now it's just stupid. Of course, it's fine to make fun of Trump because of a color, but the first time you bring up an obama because of color, then you're labeled a racist pig. Nice double standard, assholes.

There is some.

I think it was just gold-colored. If you made a coin out of a dollar's worth of gold you'd have to handle it with tweezers. This one is a $100 gold coin -- a commemorative, not intended to circulate.

Maybe if you folk spelt it properly you wouldn't have a 'colour' issue. Same with honour and neighbour.

I guess I'm of two minds on this.

While I appreciate that "Lady Liberty" harkens back to Greco-Roman artistic traditions, and I like those traditions, I see nothing wrong with sometimes breaking those traditions to make a point. "Liberty," along with "Life... and the Pursuit of Happiness" are recognized in the USA's founding document as the most fundamental of human rights, given by the Creator to all people. This makes a definite consistent statement in that regard.

Besides, it's a beautiful coin. Any objection from any political position seems to me like much ado about nothing.

Just one of hundreds of commemorative coins out there, that is why only people who don't read the article care.

You're 100% right. I didn't read the article. Yahoo!News overlays their articles with shitty videos on mobile and want you to download their app. That's not to mention the video ads they recently added which are annoying AF. I still found it interesting. Besides, I don't care personally. However, I was wondering what kind of tension this may create.

The alternative is that I could start going to Breitbart if that helps.

Oh, Og, I don't even want to think about what Breitbart would say about this coin.

They actually do have a short blurb on it, but it's nothing special.

While Breitbart does have a political slant to many of it's stories, I don't think they go overboard. In my opinion, they are just as slanted as many other big media companies, but their slant simply goes in a different direction.

I have no problem at all with issuing US coins featuring real women. There have been Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea so far. I didn't like the first one because it looks too much like a quarter with George Washington but I did like the Sac. dollar coin.

That's besides Lady Liberty, of course.

From the article you linked
It is the first in a series of 24-karat gold coins that will feature designs representing Lady Liberty as Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Indian-American.

No. He has a level of perception that you did not achieve.

How's it going hiding in the bosom of the left?

My oh my, if only they knew
