It seemed a little strange to me. I feel that he should have run for president. He would have been a candidate everyone could live with considering who actually ran. I understand his personal difficulty. However, he chose to dedicate his life to politics. His career was pretty nondescript. When he had a chance to REALLY be of service to his country, he passed. So, I really don't know why he deserves this honor from his boss. I'm not denying his life was difficult, but he knew what he was getting into. He's not your average Joe. He was a heartbeat away. I feel That both Joe and Mitt let there country down when it needed them most. I'm not saying they would have been good, just better than what we got.

His career was pretty long -- and distinguished enough that he was a seriously discussed presidential prospect several times over several decades. He deserves the MoF as a lifetime achievement award.

Definitely creepy uncle Joe, but I would have felt better with him at the helm.

Lots of people have had long, distinguished careers in government. "Long" not necessarily being good. Others,I dare say, have sacrificed much more in anonymity.
