Was Rubio's performance today helpful?

Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson declined to call Vladimir Putin a war criminal, despite being prodded by Rubio to do so.
My opinion of Putin couldn't be lower, but I have to question the wisdom of pressing the secretary of state designate to flat out call him a war criminal and, in effect, make Tillerson's job that much more difficult.
Was Rubio on the right track today?

Confirmation hearings are dog and pony shows. The questions and answers matter little today and progressively less with each passing day.

It probably helped Rubio.

You may be right. I just don't see the wisdom of having the secretary of state-designate calling a foreign chief of state a war criminal unless we're actively at war with that country.
If there is going to be a "reset" with relations with Russia, that would be a poor starting point.

It looks as if recently there has been a clear escallation in hostile and provoking behaviors towards Russia on the part of the Obama administration.

If Trump doesn't put a cap to all this (among the other things that he promissed in order to be elected), it wouldn't be an exaggeration to claim that we're sitting on a time bomb even World War Three:

Tanks do not create peace’: German politicians up in arms over NATO’s buildup at Russian borders
https://www.rt.com/news/373088-tanks...ermany-russia/

"Hundreds of American tanks, trucks, and other military equipment bound for Poland, said to be the largest arms shipment since the fall of the Soviet Union, arrived at the German port on Friday to be transferred to Eastern Europe.

Washington says the shipload of American military hardware is meant to boost its commitment to its allies against a perceived Russian threat, and ensure that Europe remains “whole, free, prosperous, and at peace.”

(German politician said) this will trigger an arms race and lead to an “escalation in relations with Russia."

I just read Rubio's other comment.

"Rubio proceeded to describe the situation in Aleppo, Syria, including the bombings of hospitals and killing of thousands of civilians. Tillerson still said the he would want to have “much more information” before saying whether Putin committed war crimes. Rubio said that he finds this answer “discouraging.”

Unbelievable. Talk about double standards.
The US intervention in Syria and other countries has led to just as many horrible mistakes and loss of civilian lives. Yet they want to be absolved of them while accusing others of being war criminals.

Moreover, there's been an increase in the nomber of accusations (and not only by Putin and Assad) that the Obama administration helped finance ISIS in Syria.
And Obama just lifted the arms embargo after the liberation of Aleppo.

Trump ruined Rubio. Rubio had big dreams that died hard when Trump prevailed. But Rubio is pissed with white trash racists like me wop elected Trump, and Rubio cant punch my nose.

I said it plenty of times, THERE ARE FAR MORE WHITE TRASH THAN ALL THE OTHERS COMBINED. And Rubio et al prefer run to kissing my ass.

Considering that he's not done running for President, I would say his performance was very helpful...,

;)

... to his career.

Obama means to leave behind so many little fires that one has to turn into a real conflagration in order to run Corey Booker in 2020...

Everything is going to be the fault of the Republicans.

Rubio will primary Trump...

Rubio has no political base, and burned bridges with the Bush People during the recent campaign. Plus Trump isn't likely to help Marco at all. Rubio is a dolt.

Fucking politicians and the dumbass yappers of the media.

We'd all starve to death if those morons were actually in charge.

Tillerson is twice as smart as all of them combined. The guy is a true patriot to put up with those dimbulbs.

I am already tired of these hearings being more about Senators and Congressmen attempting to advance their own political careers then vetting cabinet members. It seems to be worse this go round then any time that I can remember.

I am not sure that is exactly true; but you sure did get a big percentage of them to the polls this year. And for that, I gotta doff my hat to you. Democracy.

Trump was nasty as hell to Rubio during the campaign and this was Rubio's revenge. Big deal.

I come from a prominent political family of this state, politics is in my blood. Political science isn't rocket science, all are most interested in their prosperity NOT tranny restrooms. My life matters, fuck the other guy. Long ago Democrats championed a tide that lifts all boats, but not today. They will fail until they get it.

I agree (don't get used to me saying that to you). His lack of any principles other than self-interest is legendary.

You can already see how this is going to play out: he looked tough yesterday in order to appease his original neocon power base, his fans in the media, and as a hedge against Trump eventually becoming historically unpopular ("I tried!")...but he's going to vote to confirm in the end, because he has no spine.

HAHAHAHA!

CNN shit on the floor and Trump shamed them by rubbing their nose in the mess they made. The media is so accustomed to coddling Barry they crumble like a stale cookie when someone challenges them.

It's the media that's spineless, dude.

Why do you think Trump would possibly become "historically unpopular"? I thought Obama would, and it didn't happen.

Do you think the constant attacks in the daily news cycle and negative comments on the internet will work like they did with Bush? They haven't for the last year and a half.

Not that this was a difficult prediction .., but you heard it here first nonetheless.
