How Come

Hi Hope you can help. I've submitted several stories and had them all rejected,,,,,,,I 've checked spelling paragraphs,, so on and so forth ,,,,,,,,,,,,How does one figure out why they get rejected,......they don't mention ages they don't mention incest or other taboos and yet they still get rejected. I've e mailed authors in the help section with no response from anyone,,,,,,,,,,,, help would be greatly appreciated thank you Dustyblues

The rejection notice should give you reasons why they were rejected. (I think click on where it says "Rejected"? It's been a while since I had one bounce.)

Get yourself an editor (and no, not a proofreader). Someone with experience. It helped me a ton.

I did the same. I think my first story was rejected several times...for grammar and format. I can't remember. So I wrote my second story, as a way to get around it and change it but then they both got posted and that's why they're so similar. LOL

Now I always use an editor for my stories, every time. I also proofread and edit them myself once before I even send it to an editor.

Yes there should be a reason posted somewhere as to why it was rejected. I had one rejected about a month or so ago and it was for not formatting my dialog correctly. Once that was corrected I re-submitted and it was approved and posted yesterday.

And I second, or third, finding a volunteer editor here. Check on the boards here for one.

Head over to the Editor's Fourm and you're most likely be able to find an editor that will help you out. In your request, make sure to list the details about the story (length, genre, etc), and what you want help with (content, storyline, flow, spelling, etc) to make sure you get the right folks.

And if you had used an editor maybe those wouldn't have been rejected

The one story of mine that was rejected was the one time I didn't use an editor!

I think letting another set of eyes read over your work is very helpful. I always have my friend read over stuff but she's Dutch so some things get past her.

This site may be free to readers, but Laurel still likes proper presentation: proper spelling (either UK or US - she doesn't seem to mind which as long as you are consistent); proper punctuation; and proper formatting. Simple really.

An editor friend advised me to learn how. Good advice.

Editing yourself for spelling - is a must. That really spares a lot of time.
But Editor in my opinion is generally needed for a fresh view on the story. Sometimes another person can point out things that you just can't notice yourself. Plot holes, places for improvement, other such stuff.

OP, I've had several chapters of an ongoing story rejected on grounds of minor misspellings (Really minor, considering some of the writings I've seen on here) and grammatical errors which were tiny in comparison to some things on here, which were virtually unreadable. No rhyme nor reason to it, but there it is.
