College Football Playoffs/Bowl games 2016-2017

From what I'm seeing, the committee could have picked Penn State and it wouldn't be any worse than what OSU is showing.

I can't argue with you. Penn State would be playing better. We look like shit.

I for one love seeing urban Meyer in this position.

But I know it's best for the big ten if they can win.

Today's the Rose 🌹 Bowl!!! Going for a Wisconsin win! The B1G needs a win here today.

penn state is playing in the rose bowl. wisconsin is playing in the cotton bowl.

in a little less than two hours. go broncos! lose with dignity!

I know!! My error. Mixed up the games!

I'm a huge spartan but I'm a badger fan today (friend of mine will smile hearing me say that as MSU and Wisconsin tend to have intense games)

Not really feeling like Penn State deserved the Rose...

Not that I am making excuses but Ohio State is so young. They lost so many people last year and despite being very talented, they simply could not be consistent.

Penn State was much more consistent. Despite being happy Ohio State made the 4, I wish, now, that Penn State had been picked.

I will be watching the Rose Bowl game with interest. Is the cotton bowl today, too?

Why are teams with losing records in bowl games? Enough already!

Most of these lower-tier games are essentially subsidized by ESPN.

The numbers of empty seats for these games are embarrassing, but it's not surprising. An South Alabama/Air Force game isn't going to be of any general interest if you played it in late September, so why should anyone care if you call it a "bowl" and play it at a neutral site?

i actually had to google who was playing in the rose bowl. yeah, i wasn't kidding about only really caring about the cotton bowl because western was in it. college football just aint my bag.

The 6-6 and 5-7 teams are in bowls because every team with a winning record is already in another bowl.
You could cut the number of bowl games by one-third and have much better matchups for fans with a general interest in college football. I'm included in that group.
But as previously noted, unless there's a particular player or players I want to see, I'm going to skip bowl games between mediocre teams.
Last week, I think it was Tuesday, there were three bowl games. Two of the games matched teams with 6-6 records, the third had a 6-6 or 7-5 team against as 5-7 team.
Why bother tuning in?

Not defending the performance of Ohio State; it was indefensible and embarrassing and shameful. Essentially, the ending that a year like 2016 deserved.

But I've never understood the people who come out the next day and say that "Team X losing in the playoff proves that Team X didn't belong there to begin with." You can't play the game without someone losing.

WTF? Of course they deserved the Rose Bowl. They won the Big 10 championship. Since the bowl committee completely ignored said winner being ranked 4th, they had no choice but to give it to Penn State.

This despite how poorly Ohio State played all year, as evidenced by their pathetic play on Saturday.

I think the outcome of both games shows that this year there are two teams that are head and shoulders above the rest. I really don't think there is a college team that can stay on the field with Alabama and Clemson when those two teams are playing at a high level.
I think Clemson will win the title.

Would love to see Clemson win the title.

I'm tired of hearing about Alabama. I'll be pulling for Clemson even though they probably won't win. I really like Clemson's coach. Saban...not so much.

Under the old system (pre-Bowl Alliance and BCS), Alabama would be an easy #1, would play in the Sugar Bowl, and would be an easy #1 if they won. But now, you've got to win two games.

I expect it to be a close game (like it was last year), because Clemson is hard to shut down completely. But Clemson's defense isn't as good as OSU's incompetence made it look, and Alabama's defense is almost bulletproof. I expect Bama to win something like 24-17.

Me too... tired of hearing about Saban and Alabama.
