and yes, you, too, North Carolina and Virginia south of Petersburg,

I had the opportunity just this week of driving Interstate 95 from north of Petersburg to south of Savannah, both ways. I went south on Monday and came back north on Friday. I was generally able to avoid the metro areas, such as they are, at rush hour. So you can imagine my surprise when I was confronted by stop-and-go conditions in random places and at random times while on my trip. Since I had plenty of time to sit there and look at my surroundings and consider their significance, the problem was almost immediately apparent. Widen the fucking Interstate!!!

There are those lovely little "Eisenhower Interstate System" which keep a watchful eye on the same number of lanes laid down when Ike was in office. Seriously, that was like 6 decades ago. I hate to think of the increase in cars and drivers - especially shitty drivers - and the congestion which used to be reserved for large cities is now . . . randomly dispersed. And when this is interrupted by an incident at mp 62, it brings everything to a screeching fucking halt until the Proper Authorities can get it all sorted out. Perhaps with another lane, there would be a bit more space to buy another second or three to help head off the arrival of Teh St000pid before it results in crushed steel and shattered plastic. I-95 has been too major a corridor to have languished in its original state for this long. Too many people and way too much freight depend on this ribbon of concrete to get from hither to yon. If Georgia and Florida can have their feces in a relatively cohesive state, so can you.

But there should be hope. President-elect Bad Hairpiece claims to be wanting to ramp up some serious investment in new/improved infrastructure. Get in line to get some shekels, nay talents. Granted, this widening effort will cost many times what the original highway did, but time is of the essence. SC, you had a Blinky Sign telling me that there were 900-and-some highway fatalities in your state this year. I'm here to wager that figure could drop with a more accommodating thoroughfare. I was sitting still in winter, and it was comfortable, relatively. It gets way-kinda-hot there come summers, and sitting still on the highway sucks as bad as being in the pit of Hell. So, don't be cunts. Remind The "Hair" that you went for him hit him up for serious talents, and build a road . . . that Wat can be proud of and will drive (and maybe praise) every chance he gets. And he plans to get more chances in the coming years.

And thank you for being home to Clemson and do you you can to help them kick some Buckeye ass.

Love,
Wat

We cannot improve the interstate.

People will not get out of their cars and onto light rail...

Balderdash. Bovine feces. There will be none of the above.

They're going to have some serious swamp to deal with. They could, you know, "drain the swamp." Or they could fill the damn thing. Maybe with coal . . . oh wait, we're planning to balance the trade deficit with China by selling that to them, right?

Light rail would look awfully spiffy up on pedestals and tressels, all elevated an' shit, and whizzing through overhead.

But the voters keeping clinging to their steering wheels and driver's seats . . . . Go Clemson!!!

I'm considering relocation to Savannah, Jacksonville, or Tampa.

Make your pitch.

It's the middle ground....still have relatively easy access to a lot of shit within a comfortable days interstate cruise. That will get restricted the further down into FL you go.

It's a foodies paradise. From micro brews and BBQ's to fusion whatever and top notch sushi...plenty of good eats around.

It has a rich history, if you're into history it's a pretty rad town. I went on a few tours and saw some historic sites there that were pretty amazing imo.

Still has a smaller town feel. A city for sure but not a megaplex so huge everyone is just a disposable asshole either. All around a nicer town than Jacksonville or Tampa imo but it doesn't offer uber city things like an NFL team, major concert tours etc. so if those are important to you it might not be a preferable option.

If you're into gardening it's got way better soil for more things than FL, this disparity becomes larger the further down the peninsula you go. Oh and hurricane beat downs, not as often nor generally as severe as what you're liable to get in FL.

That's all I really remember as the town itself. IDK how much of my fondness for the town was people I knew and finding professional success there as a young adult and how much of it was the actual atmosphere/vibe of the town. Just being straight with you. I was there 02-05.

You need to get yourself a republican in name only Senator liked McCain. You should see our highway system here in Arizona. I'm about to jump on the 3:03 it's about 18 20 miles of 6 Lane freeway with no one on it across farmland. We don't just have Bridges to Nowhere we have freeways to Nowhere well technically they go places but they're completely unnecessary where they are.

I will be seeing a lot of orange and red today since I will be passing Cardinals Stadium in a little bit

So noted, and thanks for your response, and your honesty. I had taken that tidbit for granted, however.

I'm still in the thinking stage. I have only spent time in Tampa, and whereas it isn't ideal, it'll do. It's got a big city feel but it seems manageable, if that makes any sense. Some big cities come across as intimidating to get to know, and Tampa is just . . . big.

Jacksonville is touted as being more Georgia than Florida, and I can dig that. I have only passed through and read about it. One artile said housing is cheap, and I'm thinking of doing the fixer-upper thing as my last job, so reasonable housing costs would play right into that. But every place has reasonable housing costs at the bottom of the market - they just lack immediate liveability.

Savannah is a wild-card. I know least and it appeals most. It'd be about 5 hours from the kids, which is way better than where I am now. I like the coast, I'm in a historic spot now, and it's an intermediate spot . . . but I don't know. I need to go there and spend a week sometime - just me.

It don't matter none, as I ain't in no hurry.

Make your pitch.

Savannah is nearby so I get there on occasion. Great food and party spirit. Real nice walking town with 15+ squares in the historic area. I could easily live downtown.

Savannah.....le sigh....had some great times in that town.

You must not have stayed there long. :)

I'm not a big fan of sulphur smelling air and tap water, oppressive heat/humidity, roaches, beetles, and gnats the size of pigeons. Ive got to say they have great shrimp and oysters!

I spent 5 days in downtown Tampa near the port and I don't think we went more than 25-30 blocks, except on my nightly run back to the hotel. That was maybe 4 miles. It was easy.

Sad thing is, almost all of the construction is new. The old buildings seem to get wiped away with little-if-any adaptive reuse.

I can do some hoofin', and I like downtowns generally. Sounds promising.

No dramatics on my account, please. ;)

That should be the last thing they do. Adding lanes just adds more cars. You can never build your way out of congestion.

Was I not correct Wat?

Point #2

Better roads are a way for people to take all the advantages of city employment while evading the taxes needed for the maintenance of the urban poor...

Yeah, okay . . . and if they don't, you can accuse them of being 50 years behind the times.

>insert South Of The Border poster and accusation of racism here<

Your Wigwam Racism I am accustomed to, so this doesn't surprise me.

Light rail it is, then, swamps and all, drained or not.

Import more gators and ask EPA to set up Safe Zones for them, too.

Ask your church to sponsor one . . . .

Building more roads is behind the times, it's people that haven't caught up.

Caught up to what???

Road size: 1956, Car Load: 2016.

"If you build it, they will come" was the movies. This is, "they're already here, shit-fer-brains, now get bizzy!!!"

Yes, that's my point. You build roads you get congestion. You build more roads you get more congestion. It's time to start looking at alternatives so people don't have to sit in traffic.
