Here's why: In private meetings with Putin, Obama repeatedly referred to him as "Shorty."
That really, really pisses Putin off, especially when the Chinese are also at the table.

Is 'Shorty' worse than 'Poot-poot' ??

The chill in U.S. relations with Russia? That pretty much dates to the 1948 Berlin Airlift and hasn't warmed much since then.

Apparently some here, like Trump, are dumb as rocks when it comes to historical perspective. Wonder if they read as little as he does or also listen to no one but themselves.

Oh look, the racist is patting his own back again.

Because Obama was hoping for a Kennedy like Cuban Missile Crisis. Which is about the last time the Democrats had anything negative to say about the Soviets until recently.

They don't like Russia because it's becoming more capitalist than we are.

What I don't understand is was he just having no idea what he did or didn't want to do with the Russians when he told them that he would have more flexibility after the election? What was all that nonsense about a reset?

Every time you open your mouth (fill in the blank) __________ ______ _____!

You could actually crack open a book once in a while. The reset with Russia brought lots of benefits to both sides, until Putin took over.

"...until Putin took over?"

If you would read something besides Slate and Huffington Post every once in a while you might be aware that Putin was both the 2nd and 4th president of Russia, and wasn't particularly far from power in between.

Putin has been president of the Russian Federation for six of the eight years of the Obama Administration including two years prior to Obama whispering on a hot mic that he would have more flexibility after the election.

Putin left office in 2008, the reset happened in 2009, Putin resumed office in 2012.

Slate? Huffington Post? Have I ever cited them as a source? Maybe I have, but I don't recall ever doing so.

Good. So you do understand the chronology and the fact that it was a message TO President PUTIN and FROM Obama that he would have (direct quote) "more flexibility, after the election."

You know, same guy Obama (and you) are villifying now because it suits your narrative of delegitimizing an election your side lost.

You know, lost because (you allege) the evil Russians "rigged" the election and by rigged you specifically allege they made the DNC in general and Hillary in particular look bad by letting the voting public see who they really are in tbeir very own words.

What you are saying, essentially is the "reset" was conditional on the Russians electing the "correct" president that would do as Obama wishes. maybe the Obama Administration should have tried even harder to delegitimize Putin's election. You know meddling in the election results of a sovereign country, that sort of thing?
