Why? I don't get it. In this day and age, why would people want to have 4, 5, or more kids? Even 3 is pushing it I would think in terms of quality of life, even if you can afford it.

The neighbors already had 2 completely obnoxious brats, then they deliberately had another 1 a couple years ago, now the woman is pregnant again. This is on the salary of a security guard and a part time pre-school teacher. And its not like they have some sort of superior genes as far as I can tell, they seem none too bright (though the guy thinks he knows everything). I saw them walking to the pool last summer in their bathing suits, I still feel a bit nauseous when the image pops into my head. Some people should NOT parade down the street in swimwear.

As long as the parents can provide for their children and they are not neglected in any way, it is absolutely no one's business how many children a couple has. The pursuit of happiness and all that.

Neglect goes far beyond ones financial ability to provide. Some of the most twisted useless individuals come from pampered prosperous upbringings

It is more than possible to raise decent, worthwhile useful human beings with very little money

People generally nowadays just dislike kids being kids. And adults in many places are simply unable to adult. This is generally divorced from education, social or financial standing.

I have two and regret not having two or three more. The snip was a hasty decision and I didn't give it a second thought until near the end of the age to have children.
At the time, two seemed like something we could afford. Turns out as we both aged we became more valuable in our chosen professions. We could easily have "afforded" more children, but I've known families with 8-10 children who weren't wealthy but did just fine.
And the kids they raised were some of the best people in town.

I can afford to have kids, but don't intend to. If my current relationship continues as it is going, I could see us adopting in the future.

I don't think parents should be judged unless they are neglecting or abusing their children. I cannot imagine providing for 4, 5 + kids though.

The last time I was home, I couldn't help but notice that those from the bottom of the class had a shitload of kids, whereas those from the top had only one or two.

I was referring just to IQ level.
Quite a few of those with low IQ and/ or limitted intellectual aspirations tend to breed a lot, whereas those with a higher IQ and more intellectual aspirations typically have less than three childen . Unless they're catholics or so on.
