So, when I first joined this site, someone DM'd me through my lit profile which sends a message to your email. I am an idiot and use my personal email, which has my full name in it, as well as some other personal stuff. At first, this guy seemed nice, but I wasn't/am not looking for a relationship or to hook up, cyber, or anything of the sort. I came on here to write, discuss writing, learn, and goof off. I don't talk sexually with anyone.
Anyways, I told this guy up front that I wasn't there to do any of that. He would brush off my statement and insist on saying shit like, "That's cool, but if I have relatives in MD, and if I am in MD, then I am going to hit you up."
I kept telling him that it isn't going to happen. I am not comfortable with meeting some random guy on a word porn site, especially because I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ANYTHING. He kept insisting over and over to the point where he was getting angry with me for not just conceding to the idea.

Fuck that. I stopped talking to him, he's probably still stalking my account to this day. But he totally set the mood and showed me a glimpse of what was to follow.

Since then, I have had people posing as editors because they knew that I needed one. The first one convinced me to give him some of my contact info and ended up treating me as if he and I were in a relationship. Blowing up my fucking phone. No editing was ever done, either. Big surprise...

I appreciate every one of them for being who they are. I understand that some people are openly sexual, I am not one of them. When I state that I am not one of them, I expect to be respected.
When some guy who has his cock out as his avatar PMs me, I'll often feel them out by checking their thread/post history to 1. give them the benefit of the doubt, and 2. verify that me judging a book by it's cover is a sound decision this time. 95% of the time it is usually the case.
I've since smartened up and have become super cynical for better or worse. I really don't mind responding/receiving PMs, even if it is from weirdos, perverts, astonishingly dumb people, and I will often reply to the majority of them sheerly out of courtesy. Ultimately, Rubenesque is right. So many people here just totally lose all of their social inhibitions and just act a fool. It's offputting and not appealing at all. Rethink your decisions before you decide to say something totally out of line to someone you don't know. Be a little more charming and sociable, maybe it would increase the quality of the relationships that you have with people, you fucking weirdos.

If Lit forwards a PM (or story comment) to your email, the person who sent the email or comment can't see your email address. That's done by the Lit machine. Unless you explicitly gave him your email address, you should be okay.
