What the hell is going on lately anyway.
Up here they are screaming for and opening safe injection sites all over the place.
The drug problem has gone rampant.
Lots of talk about spending money getting people clean again too.
What I hear nothing about is why is it going so crazy suddenly.
Sure, the stuff is available but why are so many people taking it.
We need some heavy duty education and intervention to stop people from starting.

I would submit that its not an education problem, but an opportunity problem. For eight years we've been dominated by a school of thought that puts Social Justice (and similar Progressive concerns such as climate variations) well before economics and economic opportunity. Drug use goes hand-in-hand with despair...

A subset of Oxy patients may indeed go down that road, but most of it is partying, curiosity, a need for more escape and access.
Plus we drove up the price of cocaine through vigilant interdiction.
