I don't know who started with this sort of personal attacks first (my guess is that it was either Que or Johny Savage, because they tend to engage in such things on a semi-regular basis) .

I don't know how things are in the States, but I can tell you that's exactly how things work in most countries in Europe:
1.There's a type of degree in "computers maintenance + computer programming so to speak, which is just as valued and as hard to get into. The stuff that LTR does, I believe.
2. And then there's a degree that includes both mathematics and computer programming. The Silicon valley types of people. Very hard to get into that one, or to be able to follow through with it till the end.
They start with two or so years of combined teachings mainly in math but also in computer sciences (one can't limit themselves to one over the othr nowadays, can they?).
After which the person has to decide to 'specialise' either in math (they become math teachers or mathematicians)or computer ptogramming. Or, if the person is ambitious or disciplined enough, (s)he can pursue both and end up with a double specialty, so to speak. Another two or three years.
