It is well dead in the dairy industry. Cows can live to be about 20 if left to their own. Dairy cows are constantly pregnant and giving milk. Once used up in about 4 or 5 years, they are then shipped off to slaughter if they can still walk, if their hips have not fractured from the milk production. If they cannot walk then are sometimes simply killed, other times they are "live composted".
