Whats this "you can't buy health insurance across state lines" load of crap?

Theres like 5 health insurers and they are all basically global.

I dont get the fuss.

Its like Sid Blumenthal?

The fuck you talkin bout, Willis?

It's unfortunate, but each state has it's own department of insurance that the insurance companies, even though there are only 5 main health insurers in the whole damn country. In effect you actually have 50 x 5 health insurers.

Each state requires that they deal with an individual state entity. Blue Cross, Blue Shield of {enter state name here} is only allowed to sell insurance in {insert state name here}. Even if the state allows the sale of insurance from out of state, there has to be a presence within the state to which they are selling.

It's the same for auto insurance. I live in Texas, I can't purchase a policy from The General, because he doesn't have an individual presence in Texas.

Haven't you wondered why on you auto policy it says {big insurance company name} of [State you live in]

It's so that insurers can be allowed to operate only out of the state with the least consumer protection legislation.

Because freedum.

And each insurer must file their contract in each state they work in. Each state contract is different. Each change/new provision must be filled again and again. If you are trying to change your contract in Ca. NY or Fl that shit can take a year. Some states are file and use. Some states like Maryland or Rhode Island have trusts and you can modify/change a contract with no issues.

Yes, because that legislation has done SUCH a good job at protecting consumers so far........LMFAO

Show me where I said it has.

If you want to deny it can always be worse, that's up to you.

"It's so that insurers can be allowed to operate only out of the state with the least consumer protection legislation."

That's a direct implication that it has been at the very least somewhat effective at protecting consumers.

If you want to deny it can always be worse, that's up to you.

Oh no it could be worse, we could keep pretending that throwing more 'good' government after bad is going to work after 30+ years of complete failure.

It's a statement of fact. If insurers can sell across state lines, they will naturally do so from states where they are the least burdened by regulations.

What you pretend you think that means is not my concern.

Who threw jack shit at it before the ACA, which was a complete weaksauce pitch?

Ok.

Nah, we socialized our ER's back in 86.

ACA was indeed a weak sauce pitch, mostly because lefties are determined to pretend (D)'s are way more progressive and far less corporate whores than they actually are.
