Marine Le Pen is another Putin loving "conservative" with a message that sounds a lot like The Orangutang.
 
The way she is telling the story and with The National Front having some local election victories it is looking like:

BREXIT => THE ORANGUTANG => LE PEN
 
It is possible that she could become President of France.

The French parties of Left and Right had to work together to stop her winning last time.

She makes Nigel Farage and Donald Trump seem paragons of compromise and democracy.

More seriously though, the French establishment, either of the left or right has shown conclusively that neither has the gumption to make the structural changes that France needs.

The problem with Marine is that she seems better than her Dad, but she still has very extreme policies.

She could win because the other major parties are such fuck-ups.

This thread is about Marine Le Pen, so far there are some 15 responses. She has been variously described as scary, dangerous, nasty, and extreme, without one single example to support those opinions. Liberal opinion should quit name calling and take more notice of what she actually plans to do.

The ambitions of both her left and right wing rivals are limited to aralditing their backsides to the throne of power and inserting their snouts in the trough as deep as they can. Sarkozy and Hollande the former and current Presidents were hopeless failures from right and left respectively. Juppe the current favourite is a convicted criminal.

Based on any rational analysis rather than mere name calling Le Pen has a fair chance and is the only candidate campaigning for change. If she could get France out of the Euro it would trigger the most important political changes in Europe since 1945. I hope she does it, though the Italians could well get in first.

You are right that Marine Le Pen has a fair chance. Currently she is the most likely candidate to win because the other parties have poor candidates and internal divisions.

Whether, as President, she could do what her party wants to do? That is more problematic. Unless she does a Brexit and takes France out of the EU many of her policies cannot be implemented because they would require treaty change.

It is far less likely that the French electorate would vote to leave the EU. Unlike the UK, many European countries see the EU as a guarantor of European peace, and if President-elect Trump reduces the US's commitment to NATO the desire for collective protection against outsiders and internal divisions would strengthen the perceived need for EU.

It occurs to me that if the U.S. pulls out of NATO, NATO and the EU could be merged -- that is, NATO would become simply the EU's military arm.
