When Will We Enter The Post-Racial Era?

Despite some signs of success, we aren't making enough progress to making the black community more successful. I'm not sure what the answer is. Personally, I think the unintended consequences of programs intended to help blacks actually ends up hurting them. We have had a war on poverty for fifty years. We've had affirmative action. There have been other segments that have overcome oppression. The Irish and the Italians, for example. Does the black community bear any responsibility for their circumstances? What specifically can the white community do to effectively help blacks?
I think blacks have to bear some responsibility. I'm at the point where I say fuck it. You could stay oppressed or take advantage of whatever opportunities are available and build upon that. Aside from that, I don't know what specifically the rest of us could do to help the blacks any further. Do you have any ideas?

Until the government runs a full employment programme, poverty will endure.

Years ago I was a construction manager who hired sundry suppliers and sub-contractors for my construction work.

Blacks were one of two camps, they either competed or they hoisted their noses and refused to compete. The 2nd group made lotsa money from government set-asides until the government jobs were done, then they didn't know how to compete. Blacks who competed did okay and built relationships with contractors like me.

Unfortunately most readers here won't appreciate the irony of your post. FW comes from Cumnock which is a tiny town 200 miles wnw of Sydney. It is a joke location much beloved by Pub comedians with the reputation of being the centre of 6 finger country. It makes small town West Virginia look civilized.

Blackfellas in Australia are very poor, poorly educated, live 17 years less than whites and are addicted to alcohol, drugs, and social welfare.They are extraordinarily violent, particularly to their women, but rarely to whites.

The difference with the US though is that our blackfellas are despised rather than hated. They constitute about 2.5% of the population. Other black people, Maori, Samoans, Tongans and Fijians despise them at least as much as the whites do. It's pretty sad and there seems to be no easy answers.
