There it is. Trump's first accomplishment, just two days after the election. Knowing what they're coming up against, TPP supporters know it would be useless to even try. Plans to continue pushing for TPP have crumbled.

The USA is already massively protectionist, far more than most Americans realize, so it is difficult to see how that can be increased much. Agricultural subsidies for example are greater in the USA than the entire EU.

China is starting to buy large amounts of Agricultural products from Australia and New Zealand. What will US farmers concede when they want to sell to China? The TPP is certainly dead ( and was far too complicated - the Japanese in particular ran rings around the US negotiators) but America will still have to cut deals if she wants to export.

That said my own business in the USA would not exist without protection. We employ 32 people there, mainly in high paid positions. It would be about 20 - 30% cheaper to employ those people elsewhere but regulations demand the jobs be US based. But we recover the additional cost (from the US consumer) so that 's sweet.

Yeah, right.

We also need to kill the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership which would basically merge the EU and NAFTA.

That hasn't gotten anywhere near as much publicity but its probably even worse.

Interesting. I'll look into that.

Curious in Cancun,

The comment about the USA being massively protectionist is correct. In fact, the only other countries that are protectionist to the same degree are Communist countries. Ironic really.

Which policies are you talking about specifically that make them so ironically similar?

Asking from Alaska,

Any country where the ownership and control of the means of production is in the hands of the state is by definition Communist.

Any country where the state does not own or control the means of production or otherwise interfere in the operation of the free market, is by definition capitalist.

Countries where the State protects the means or production by the use of assorted tax payer funded subsidies or enforcing tarrifs on overseas competitors or who otherwise intervene in the operation of the free market are largely regarded as socialist.

My country does not pay tax funded subsidies to companies nor does it charge tariffs to foreign companies who chose to compete in our free market. my country is capitalist.

There is not enough time or space for me to itemise all of the USA policies on tarrifs and subsidies there are far too many. If you are truly interested you can look up where your tax dollars go in this respect on assorted government web sites.

So you don't care to get into specifics to back up your point. No one expects a dissertation, of course, but no punchy highlights? Not even linkage?

Mmkay.

Next?

The absence of facts does not debunk a truth.

Trump taught me that.

The facts of socialist agricultural subsidies and protectionism in the USA are there for the world to see. As you well know!

Not addressed to me but I'll give an example. Sugar Cane is a much more cost effective way of producing sugar than Sugar Beet. When Cuba, then the world's biggest sugar producer went communist in 1960 did the USA turn to Latin America to fill the gap - No. She started to subsidize sugar beet farming in the North west, Washington and Oregon in particular. Subsidies were paid, tarriffs were increased and not only Cuba but other efficient producers like Brazil, Australia and central America were kept out.

These subsidies amount to many billions of $ and US consumers pay heaps more. The chances of that changing are zero because you have an unholy alliance of NW farmers sucking the government teat and Cuban refugee citizens in a swing state Florida who are still fighting the revolution.

Nonsense.

And there is no such thing as a free market.

Lost in the blabber is a simple reality: YOU CANT COMPETE WITH SLAVERY. Because slavery is huge tax on prosperity and humane living standards.

Don't worry, Trump will bring slavery back. All those illegal immigrants will be rounded up and forced to work, in the factories he is bringing back, for no wages. That'll be in the first 100 days. As a result the Chinese, south Korean and Indian economies will have totally collapsed by the end of 2017.
