i'm conflicted over this - it feels... it feels wrong somehow:
an artist has been to the somme and collected many british-fired shell fuses and soil/clay from areas that clearly saw much death and bloodshed. the brass is melted down and cast as poppy pins, then the ground-down soil is added to the red enamel and applied to the pins.
obviously proceeds are about raising money.
but still... soil that must carry so much human remains albeit broken down now, and the heads of the shells that contributed to that destruction... i dunno, doesn't sit right with me but that's just me. it tastes of an ''artist'' going further than is decent for the sake of making a name for themselves (and a shit load of money into the bargain) even though it'll raise X thousands of pounds.

Two yachts were at anchor in Chateaubelair. At approximately 1900 hours one was boarded by four men armed with machetes. The captain was able to repel them, but suffered a slash to his forearm and several cuts on his hands. He was later treated at the local hospital. A VHF MAYDAY call was made for assistance but there was no response. He received help and assistance from those aboard the second yacht. A report was made by phone to the local police.
Naturally, we will be headed in that direction come February. The west coast of St. Vincent is, unfortunately, notorious for attacks (and murders) perpetrated on transient yachts.

ooh, tell sean there are 2 venues for the meds, not 1 - you have to book through the only phone number but they're supposed to let you know which of the 2 places to go to. i had to phone back and find out today; 1's in knightsbridge, the other's just off bond street/oxford street.
