My criteria for yes is something that stands the test of time. Does it have to be good? Since most of the readers here are reading one handed, that is neither here nor there. If it gets them off then it is good, if not.... they go on to something else.

"Masterpiece" is in the eyes of the beholder.

Porn, graphic with nothing left to the imagination. Erotica, something less than graphic but still porn like in substance.

Given that definition I think there have been many "porn" masterpieces. TxRad may have named a few. In the history of written erotica there have been more than a few. If I were to look for modern masterpieces I might look here. Where else would be better?

I think that Ogg is right,though. When otherwise pornographic work exceeds normal expectations then it isn't considered to be porn.

My favorite example is the 1980-ish movie "Nothing to Hide," which was produced as the sequel to "Talk Dirty to Me." The movie is more romantic than pornographic, but the sex is graphic.

My reaction on watching "Nothing to Hide" was 'that's not porn.'

A masterpiece would be something that many people specialized in that field agree that the piece is something extraordinary. It's a kind of agreement- 'We all agree this story not only encompasses everything all erotica/porn should strive for but also has something extra.'

I say, a masterpiece demonstrates competence of the art and science of any craft, plus high performance elegance.

So far no one has offered any LIT masterpiece to defeat my thesis. Prove me wrong.

Over the years I've lauded GLYNNDAH, TIO, and HOLLIDAY1960 as superior LIT writers (all 3 are on my shit list), regardless of the low esteem I have for them they write well. But none are PILOT. Who is!
