the southwest window of the living room. outside sprouted a mulberry tree. right along the line of the house. i was going to cut it. waiting for winter to assess the yard. it now has to stay. birds have been taking refuge, and i have an inside peak. it's like a glass window at the aquarium. i need to prune for logistical reasons. i can't wait for spring.

today three sparrow visited the tree, while i sat and watched. one ruffled his feathers and stretched. two sat next to each other. one pecked away, as if looking for mites. they stayed for a bit, then flew away.

on a side note, the bees got mites. treated, this year's honey can not be drawn. better over winter, in such a stressful year. my fruits are still flowering in the yard.

in the battle for the lawn, the sticker burrs, goat heads, ninnys, evil mother fuckers have erupted with purple heads. i will not inoculate my yard. there is so much seed there. i seek to crowd them out. cover crop has been thrown.

down the road, they are treating the entire lot with some roundup type product. an entire lot. brown. dead. sprayed again, so they don't have to mess with it. earth poisoned. for sale!

I can get rid of those mites and weeds in about ten minutes with my mystery mix.

:)

i will not kill every seed in the yard. i have too many precious seeds. i just have to crowd out the fuckheads.

Yay! Good plan!

We put a stop to local conservation authority which wanted to lower pond level to dry out wetland so they could poison invasive Phragmites. Will tarp over and solarize stuff underneath and then try start and plant cattails.

Cattails had a good year this year. Most I've seen in almost 20 years.

Herbicides suck!

cattails give life.

tell me about the herons.

just the other weekend. in the river. the heron tracks were huge. at least a 2' diameter. beauties. they visit my parents frequently.

that's not the seed i spread, but i'll look into it. they are wonderful. i want to overseed those into the yard.

No it's chamomille I just call them field daisys.

You're always gonna have undesirables in that wildflower type seed you buy.

That stuffs pretty expensive too isn't it?

i don't spend that much on seed. less than clothing, and i am cheap. i also collect and spread from along the road and from pastures. blue eyed grass is one that spreads through seed. it is a beauty, and shines through the prickly bastards. it's been spreading through my yard.

Cattail roots are a good starchy food source in the wild.

Besides the Great Blues we have Green Herons. Much shorter. Hard to spot. They stretch their necks up and wave them like tall grasses and cattails as camouflage.

i've seen the blues, but never a green. this morning a male cardinal visited the window.

Can you grow thyme as a ground cover?

i have tried that before, but it didn't last through the summer. mint also dies off in the summer. i leave town for about a month and the yard gets no water, and the temps get hot. if it can't make it on its own, i don't want it. i've got red clover going as a winter cover crop right now.

You could start a silkworm farm. The possibilities are endless.

i could. i wonder if i could get an ag exemption on my land.
