I'm a huge vampire fanatic and fascinated with them way more than werewolves. I'm not talking about the "Twilight" bullshit either. So if there are any fans of Vampirella, The Lost Boys, Fright Night, Underworld, Salem's Lot, or the like.... Please check in and share your interests in the supernatural realm of the blood suckers:)

Notable mentions: Vampire the Masquerade (role playing game) Elvira, Mistress of the dark, Nosferatu, Interview with the vampire.👠👠👠Kant💋

Gonna be a great Halloween 😎

A last fire will rise behind those eyes
Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie
Immortal fear, that voice so clear
Through broken walls, that scream I hear

Cry, little sister - Thou shall not fall
Come to your brother - Thou shall not die
Unchain me, sister - Thou shall not fear
Love is with your brother - Thou shall not kill

When I started writing horror stories I created a firm "No Vampires" rule. You couldn't shake a stick without hitting an erotic vampire story in those days, and I thought a little more variety was in order.

Now, though, it seems less and less prevalent a theme. On the Erotic Horror page here on Lit, for example, "vampire" is the most oft used tag in the history of the category (appearing twice as often as the next most common phrase), but it's now only the sixth most popular tag among recent stories. Demons appear to be much more trendy, as "demon" and "succubus" hold the top two spots, a turn that's been prevalent for at least a year now.

"Vampire" has slipped to number four on Nonhuman--where, interestingly, "werewolf" is now number one. While Horror has only a quarter the number of werewolf stories as vampire stories overall, "werewolf" is the most popular tag in the history of the Nonhuman genre on Lit. (Who knew?)

Since the vampire thing is far less ubiquitous now than five years ago (and since demons bore me), I've relaxed the "No Vampires" rule a few times over the years.

My Halloween Contest entry is a vampire story. I almost always write a vampire story around Halloween time.

I dig non-European vampires, though I have yet to use one in a story. At least in a Lit story. The penanggalan is delightfully bonkers, and the soucouyant only slightly less so. Or there's the impundulu, the South African "lightning bird" that's like a mixture between thunderbird and vampire legends.

One of my personal favourites is the Ramanga from Madagascar. It's like a ceremonial janitor that lives on the blood, spit and nail clippings of nobles, whose job is to eat these things so witches can't use them in spells against the owners. There's a pretty darned good class warfare story waiting in there somewhere.

Huge Vampirella fan, but not the crappy 90's comic, but the original 70's Warren Mag. Part of the thrill of them when I was young was they occasionally showed...boobs!

Like Nosferatu and the classic Drac, but things liek True Blood and the more modern vampires annoy me

Anne Rices vampires were the wimpiest whiniest blood suckers ever.

Conversely Brian Lumley's the Wamphyrie from his Necroscope series were the most bad ass.

No really into vampires, maybe Twilight killed it for me although I've never read any of the books or seen the movies.

I do like the old vampire movies like Nosferatu, and even liked Lost Boys.

I just can't get into them now, not sure why. Give me Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster any day.

I've felt little need to delve erotically into the undead. I threw skinwalkers into one episode in A Taste of Spirits and I have a whole panoply on non-stereotypical vamps and were-critters to draw upon; maybe I'll get to them someday. I'll likely need to custom-design vampiric creatures to make them plausibly erotic in my eyes. A close relative wrote some great vampire books (non-erotic) but I ain't her.

Love Vampires! Lost Boys was so humorous, how could you not? Mostly love the music. Cry Little Sister was a work of genius.
To understand the current vampire culture, you almost have to live it for awhile. I had a close relative who was obsessed by it for over a decade. He married on Halloween.
A few years later, when he passed away before his time, he got exactly what he wanted... A vampire funeral, complete with black coffin and red rose blanket.
Cry Little Sister blared over the speakers during his wake, along with Hell's Bells, and a few other choice pieces.
It made the local papers and people were so freaked out that we got some pretty nasty calls. Some showed up with rosaries to watch from a distance.

In poor taste? maybe...but it was what he wanted. The coupe de gras was that the moment they loaded him into the hearse, one of the fiercest thunderstorms you can imagine began. It literally poured buckets all the way to the cemetery. The moment they took him out of the hearse, the lightening stopped. (He used to freak me out saying how he wanted it to crash and boom and rain during his funeral!)
Local Radio stations were inundated all day with requests for songs like Bark at the Moon, Highway to Hell, Welcome to my Nightmare, Soul Stripper as well as the other above named themes.
Later, when we returned to the cemetery, the entire place was swarmed by black crows! That was a little unnerving!
*I should note here that at his request, everyone (over 500 people total) in attendance made donations to the Make a Wish Foundation for terminally ill children. Vampires are awesome!

Lost Boys is excellent, I think it turned me into a goth. Some others:

The Hunger. Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon... where was I? And Bowie, to remind us that immortality doesn't come cheap.

A French Vampire in America/Innocent Blood: modern-day vampire accidentally turns a Mafia boss. Fun action/horror/comedy-ish plus kinky vampire sex.

Vampire's Kiss: Nicholas Cage is a deeply screwed-up asshole who thinks he's become a vampire. Black comedy.

What We Do In The Shadows: mockumentary about a group of vampires living in Wellington, New Zealand. If you've ever hung out with Masquerade LARPers you'll probably enjoy this one.

He's never misfiled anything! Not one time!

God, this movie is funny. :D Their turf disputes with the werewolves... just brilliant stuff.

I hear they're making a sequel focussing on the werewolves. Would watch.

I heard the working title is "We're Wolves". :D

I started a vampire story for the Halloween contest but lost my mojo for it. I don't know why. But it did lead to an interesting discussion with someone who wrote a paper on female sexuality and vampires.

Nicolas Cage can't fucking act in my book. He fucked Ghost Rider up in my eyes. I heard Marvel bought the rights to the movies back so they count do them at a later date. Would love to see Disney do the Rise of the Midnight Sons storyline with GhostRider, Blade, and Morbius:)👠👠👠

I didn't like crappy vampire movies like 30 days of night. I used to do LARP around the Stone Mountain where white wolf is/was based. That was pretty cool. Haven't done LARP in years. I miss it. Would love to play a Ravnos or Gangrel vampire again:)

Some of you here might remember the 60s soap opera Dark Shadows with vampire Barnabus Collins.

Was the inspiration for the 2012 Tim Buton/Johnny Depp movie.

Alternate vampires:

* Dark Matter vamps that only prowl in glaring sunshine.
* Mermaid vamps only seek prey ashore during coastal rainstorms -- and don't you go swimming at night!
* Tromp voters have their souls sucked out by the vampiric candidate - no, won't go there.
* Could daylight-tolerant vamps be manufactured by splicing mosquito genes into human DNA?
* Do chimpanzee vamps terrorize their species in the Congo Basin?
* I have a model of a fanged, bat-winged Garfield, yes, a vampire cat!
* Mutant albino vamps that subsist on lymph, not blood.

My dad used to watch Dark Shadows religiously :) 👠👠👠Kant💋

I wonder if a toothless vampire would starve to death if he was unable to feed? Or just hunt with a knife to open a wound in his prey.

A few more entries: From Dusk till Dawn, Buffy the vampire slayer, and Once bitten.:) 👠👠👠Kant💋 Not my top choices, but worth mentioning, I suppose.

Older vamps (and were-wolves and ogres) are always breaking or losing their fangs. Fortunately, sympathetic (and enterprising) orthodontists offer dental repair -- for a substantial fee. Who / where are they? Just look for an all-night dental office with a Maserati parked in back.

The modern process of replacing fangs goes pretty fast. Teeth can be molded by machines in-office; lab not required. But pre-1999 indeed saw ten-day delays. Temporary fangs weren't as sturdy as permanents, so during the transition period, an undead patient must avoid biting tough, thick skin. Prey on the weak. Yeah, that works in a period piece.
_____

Meanwhile, how about a vampiric were-lamprey? Even in human form their mouth is round, and red, and lined with small, sharp teeth, with a raspy file-like tongue for cutting through skin to reach the sweet, sweet wine of life. Don't even think about what happens to a sucked cock or slurped clit...

Too creepy? Okay then, look back at the lymph vampire I suggested above, and consider the existence of sperm and vaginal-secretion vamps. Hmmm, for weird, maybe a mucus vamp, a snot-sucker. The victim suffers a nose-gasm, of course. Or a toe-jam vamp giving toe-gasms.

Blood isn't really that nutritious. What sustains vamps is the life-force accompanying the ingested bodily fluid. Thus the exact fluid isn't a critical as the emotion accompanying the interaction. A discerning vamp could find underarm sweat sufficient. Ewww...

NOTE: That last reminds me of the time I was in my sleeping bag on the floor of a communal house. I awoke to find a kitten snuggled into each armpit, snoozing. Good thing they weren't vampire cats.

Meanwhile, back in Transexual, Transylvania .... haha. I heard they were remaking that cult classic:) I bet it doesn't compare to the original movie with Tim Curry. 👠👠👠Kant💋

If we are talking books, the one I enjoyed the most was probably Charlaine Harris Southern Vampire Mysteries. The True Blood TV show was ok, but obviously can't hold a candle to the books...

Unfortunately the series has concluded.

I have also been known to pick up one of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake novels once in a while. Hamilton is kinda hit or miss and really bad at writing sex scenes, but she is great at worldbuilding and was part of defining the modern Urban Vampire genre.

Kim Harrison's Hollow series is not specifically vampire - the main character is a witch - but it features a really cool vampire side-character.

I'm not talking about the "Twilight" bullshit either.

Maybe you read the wrong version? ;)

Seriously though - Twilight can never become a great book because Stephenie Meyer is not a very good writer, but I was surprised of how much better the new version is.

It's a lot shorter - the story is finished in one book instead of the original four - and the characters have been gender-swapped so Edward is a girl and Bella is a dude. Of course the twihards hate the book with a vengeance, but the changes actually made it an enjoyable read, as incredible as it sounds. I don't know if it's because it's shorter or because Stephenie Meyer has improved over the years... maybe a combination of both.
