What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I plan to get radish today to try the sautéed radish Meeks.

It's become a new favorite for me. I hope you enjoy it. :)

(I use a bit of butter, salt and pepper. I think the flavor of the radish would be great cooked regardless of what's used.)

It's like I can't sleep or something

...

I was craving gochujang so I threw this together. :D

I didn't have meat so I omitted that part. I wilted cucumber and seasoned it, gently cooked the carrot and shiitake in a frying pan and blanched the kale (no spinach on hand) for toppings. I fried the egg with a little sesame oil. It came out delicious.

Staying with a relative, and today she made me a breakfast of pancakes and French toast. I'm not complaining, I love them both, it's just... eating them both together with no potatoes or eggs or bacon or anything, it was just kind of an odd combination if not at a buffet  There was coffee, which she now regrets, I believe :D

Homemade chicken noodle soup... I am the only one in the house who isn't sick. Like the sole survivor in a zombie apocalypse !!!

Roast lamb, roast potatoes, onions and garlic, Tiberian parsnips, carrots boiled with star anise and sea salt, romanesco, and peas with spring onions and gem lettuce cooked in white vermouth, then apple crumble, simple apples, the crumble with hazelnuts and flaked almonds, and cream, and a cheese plate.

Kitchen supper with friends ( was meant to be with my mother too, but she felt the limited offerings too humble and was a little too embarrassed too
See atUs host so informally. ). Beautiful evening none the less, and a friend staying over. FIVE Dogs in the house, Heaven.

Well, that all sounds.. mostly ok.
But.. Tiberian parsnips!
Oh sheesh, the shame! The shame!
:p
I would have eaten it all!
:D

Warm root veg and spinach salad with smoked river lamprey.

River lamprey is an icky looking, but yummy fish. It's kind of like a small eel with a really gross mouth and its blood is poisonous.

I also bought radishes and I'm gonna try sauteeing them next week. :)

Lamprey is not eaten much here, though I have no idea if that is because we don't have them, or its just not our custom. I'm glad it tastes better than it looks :D

Ovenroasted carrots and beets, sauteed cavolo nero and a soft boiled egg.

I've been eating ridiculous amounts of cavolo nero lately. The grocery I usually go to started to stock it right next to the entrance. Too tempting to pass up!
I had forgotten there were so many people who like to cook here! I ate roasted beets with a raspberry mole + smoked almonds on eggs and tortillas this morning. I almost never buy beets and now I have beet greens as well. What is cavolo nero?

So I take it you've been here under a different name before? :)

Roasted beets are excellent. The greens are good, don't waste them! Treat them like spinach and you'll be golden.

Cavolo nero is a type of leafy cabbage. Kind of like kale. I know they refer to it as cavolo nero in MasterChef Australia, so I thought that's how it's usually called in English.

Cinnamon rolls (or slaps-on-the-ear, as the name translates into English), because it is the cinnamon roll day.

Dinner was soup with tofu and broccoli.

No, it's nib sugar. That's what is traditionally used to decorate all kinds of pullas here. :)

I was almost hoping you would say salt, but I love that sugar. I wonder if I could get something comparable here? I have never seen it. Then again, I have never looked :)

I don't know. Maybe you could find it in some Scandinavian stores or German stores? Wiki says it's used in Germany too.

I only use it for pullas, and not always on those either, because it's rare I have it on hand. I usually snitch it from my mom in small amouns when I visit, but today I actually bought a package of it for the first time in my life. It's huge, probably enough to last me a life time.
