Reparations....what's the deal?

Asking taxpayers that are alive today, that had nothing to do with a wrong committed so long ago when they weren't alive and didn't own/benefit from slavery won't fly. You'd be opening up a Pandora's box to victimhood.

It's called pandering to voters.

It's a UN recommendation:

A United Nations panel of human rights activists has urged the United States’ government to pay reparations to the descendants of Africans who were brought to the US as slaves. The committee blamed slavery for the plight of African-Americans today.

Article here.

So I don't exactly think it is "pandering to voters" as you say, since no candidate I have heard of has endorsed that report.

I want my 20 acres and a mule back in Georgia...

My family did 40 acres and a team of mules for the older slaves. The idea was for the old slave to lease the land and mules to a sharecropper.

Younger slaves got new clothes and money.

A letter I have from 1889 mentions my ancestor looks after the really old and cripples 24 years after emancipation.

Its all in the old letters and probate records and slave narratives of the WPA.
