Just wondering if there are any people here who love George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, not GoT (I don't like the direction they are taking).

I am i dont like the direction of the show either hopefully the spin off will be better without dan and dave running it. I just got The Dunk and Egg stories read all the a song of ice and fire books.

yes indeed. read all the books and i'm kinda reluctant to watch the series in case it spoils them for me ... but i'll get over myself soon and watch them anyway. if i can watch the harry potters and lotr's without the original books being ruined for me then it's a safe bet i can do the same with GoT

really bothered, though, about the making of the dark tower films. my favourite books by king - hope the films will be watchable. they really needed clint eastwood in his younger days for the gunslinger

Somewhere buried on this forum-but it will resurface when the new season starts-there is a discussion thread dedicated to the show.

I stopped watching. Its obvious Martin has a hatred of women that Is unmatched in any other author I can name off the top of my head. Every woman is raped beaten or sexually humiliated. Its to the point its appalling.

Not the female races fault he's a fat disgusted sack of shit.

Because I work with women who have been the victims of rape and abuse I Personally hope he chokes on the next triple cheeseburger he pulls out of his beard and tries to hove down his hippo like gullet.

On another note, the direction is being dictated now by HBO because the slob won't finish his books because he's been on an ego driven victory lap since the show started. He's missed multiple deadlines and in the meantime has come out with other material no one cares about.

Next season will not only be late, but abbreviated (7 episodes I think) and same for the following season which I think will be the last.

I think Dan and Dave have totally lost it by now. It seems that after Ned's beheading and the Red Wedding, they became obsessed with shocking the audience. What they did with Sansa, Sheeren (I don't remember the correct spelling of her name), Mance and Stannis seem to reinforce that perception.

The changes they made in the first few season where certainly annoying, but they were understandable (Robs wife, the absence of Tyrion's chain, for example). But as time went on, the changes were more and more ridiculous, I believe.

About Dunk and Egg, my username Aegon the Unlikely, is how Aegon Targaryen the Fifth of his Name was known. Egg became Aegon V. He is one of my absolute favorite characters in the ASOIF universe.

Not much left to spoil any more...

Well, most of events where the books left us, cannot happen anymore on the show, it's a whole different story by now. I watched GoT knowing that Winds of Winter will be something entirely different, and much better.

Yeah, as opposed to every man on the show that lives in nothing but rainbows and eats unicorn meat for breakfast.
Whaaaa the women.

If the abuse they go through hits you harder, you may not be the rose coloured glasses equality feminist you think you are.

I trudged my way through the books, but I agree that last season wasn't the best. Until the last episode, that was great. I'm still on the fence about which one I prefer, I just know I"m going to watch and read everything Westeros.

That's the show. I guess you have not read the books...

Moreover, that was life for women in the middle ages. Forcible rape was not only common, but even encouraged, for example. That's where the "knight in shinning armor" and "prince charming" bullshit come from.

Do to my job, I also have contact with rape and abuse victims, not only women but children too. It is awful. It angers and depresses me. Worst of all is how law enforcement treats the victims when they defend themselves and turn on their assailants. It is so unfair.

But history is unfair as well. While ASOIF is not historical, it is deeply rooted in historical middle ages, that's what makes it so awesome. It never condones this behaviors, they are simply part of the landscape. Shying away from this realities would only lead to Disney style bullshit.

Try some R. Scott Bakker, you'll love him. :D

But yeah, EVERY character gets shit on in this series, men and women. At least it's the women that are ending up in power in most instances.

I started reading ASOIAF back in 1998, fell in love with it then.

I was actually lukewarm toward the series until it overtook the books. Now I'm enjoying it more than ever. I guess I can split the books and the show in my mind as two separate things enough at this point to get enjoyment out of it. Also I don't believe Martin will ever finish the series so I'm happy I'll be getting closure in some form, at least, though I still believe the books are the superior narrative, only they won't get finished.

There is a distinct lack of buggery in the show. Men are raped even more than women, even today.

But I guess you can't show that on television, even HBO. It is in the books a bit more.

Ah yes, the gall of calling out rape in misogyny heaven. Yes bad shit happens to the guys, especially Theon:eek: but its not glorified in the same manner. And I left out the ridiculous gratuitous nudity that even some of the actors are sick of.

As for women being forcibly raped...um, is there any other kind? Oh, wait, there is always Islam, right? That's their belief so they get away with it.

I hold to Martin being a woman hating prick and that's my take. No one has to defend the fact they get off on that shit so stop trying to because it just shows you know I'm right.

This site and many sites like it thrive on the abuse of women, that's why so many of you are here.

If I were a woman posting this I'd have a PM box full of threats of rape. But even the though we're anonymous the fact I'm male is a detriment to that behavior.

Again, you are talking about the show... read the books... or just make uninformed judgments and statements as you so happily are, no need to research how things actually are.

I thought you where a woman...

So... if this evil site thrives on the abuse of women, according to you... why are you here?

Anywho, I can only remember one mention of forcible buggery in the books. So Lovecraft may have a point there.
But I don't exactly think he fetishizes abuse towards women. Atleast no more than all the happy time times everybody else has.

There are no happy endings in Westeros, male or female.. Get over it or stop reading.

So because male rape happens in prisons, your contention is that more men are raped than women. Are you a retard?

Keep your nose clean.

Those panties could make you a very popular boy in Cell Block C.

Well, the direction it's taking is because Marin hasn't FINISHED THE FUCKING SERIES, THAT MOTHERFUCKER!

And LC, I don't have the triggers you do so took the female abuse as of the times, where women weren't valued like men and the lessor class treated as nothing.

But if you look beyond the abuse (e.g., Sansa's wedding night) the central characters and beyond actually embody very strong and resilient women, including Sansa...who are going to get theirs.

I'm not offended by the gratuitous nudity and haven't read where cast members are tired of it, but haven't really paid attention.

Are you a retard?

Phew thank god. *wipes forehead*
I was worried for a second there that someone might have hijacked your account.

So that's the state of affairs on the cyberspace nowadays... I was naive enough to think I could start a thread about literature and it becomes a fight about rape (when Sansa is still a virgin in the books).
