Hi, I am very interested in the future of cars in America. I would love for my next to be a plug in hybrid or EV. My question is does anyone know the real cost of ownership for a volt. I know Cheve would like me to believe its so cost effective. Has anyone had to replace or maintain the batteries or other components? How far are you actually traveling in electric only?

Where is all this electricity coming from to power electric cars and how will it be produced?

The grid, mostly.

Depends on where you are. Some places, hydro-electric dams, others, nuclear power stations, others natural gas or coal fired "conventional" power plants.

For the truly eco-minded fanatics, cars are charged by personal/off-grid wind, hydro or solar installations.

Whatever the source, any pollution is localized instead of spread all over creation by millions of Internal combustion engines.
