When Will Smith dared to criticize Hollywood regarding the Oscars and its lack of diversity, the moguls sicced a transgender on him to silence his black ass.

Alexia Arquette, somehow, was aware of Smith's casting couch behaviors for 30 years ago and told it all on Twitter as an explanation of why Smith's opinion of the Oscars should be discounted.

I have no idea who that is, nor why he has been brought into this thread.

But there are plenty of gay black men. Hell I can't turn on the TV anymore without gay black men being pushed.

That said, the whole "DL" thing is bullshit, maybe the dude just doesn't want to put his business on the street.
 
Cam Newton is another successful black athlete that people love to hate on these days.


I can't help but think it's probably harder for a black man to come out, in everyday society.

I do know that during my stint as a crisis counselor, a skewed amount of suicidal cases involved minorities dealing with such stigma. Mind you, that was quite a few years ago and hopefully, some progress has been made.

One reason I think it's harder?
Social mores for the black community include a heavy influence from the Baptist denomination of Christianity.
Another reason? The idea that you need to be "hard" or "thug" to be respected. You can't be thug and gay. Let's be real- there are still areas in this country that think if you speak grammatically correct then you are trying to "talk white."

You obviously have not noticed how hard the media is forcing the "thug gay" trope on the black community over the last few years. What started as a trickle (Omar on The Wire) is now a full onslaught.

Allow me to find some examples for you....

Do you think there are more visible within the entertainment industry because that percentage of the population wanted more representation or that homosexuality, in general, is more accepted?

I'm not sure my empathy has lessened but I appreciate the education and conversation.

Everything that is visible in entertainment is there by design, not happenstance.

Since when does Hollywood "represent" people simply because they want it?
