This is a question for other authors. How do you handle the comments that simply insult the work or the author? I'm currently writing my first story, and would love to know how you deal with those type of comments.

I delete them--and contrary to what some say about backlash from deleting such comments, I haven't experienced that--and I post at least a story a week here.

Ignore them, or delete them

You have the power to moderate your comments received on you stories. Most of the time I just delete the chickshit anonymous comments that aren't constructive criticism. Easiest way to handle it. Rinse and repeat if necessary 👠👠👠Kant

Insults usually say more about the insulter than the work in question, like this charming message:

hey, bulldyke, stop wasting literotica server space with your effluvia"

You can turn off anonymous comments by going to your submissions page and options.

You can still get abuse but from people who have a named Literotica identity. You can reply to them if you want to - unlike anonymous.

Comments like that are not helpful and only serve to demean. Delete them. Now if the comment is trying to relay some constructive critique than that is fine.

Cherish them. They prove your writing actually touched the fucktards.

I read them. I laugh at them. Then I ignore them. Most nasty comments are at best a good laugh. At worst, something to be ignored. And as I don't allow anonymous comments, they either have to create an alt. or let everyone read about how crass and ignorant they are.

Have a good laugh, then move on to your next project. Maybe that one will draw even funnier comments.

So far I haven't gotten any bad comments, but I'm sure it will happen one day.
Not sure I will delete them, I guess it depends on how cruel they seem to me.

Delete the ones that are irrelevant to the story. Some can just be simple abuse.

This old discussion over and over and over and over again. If someone is bothered enough by these comments to initiate a forum thread on them, they are bothered by the comments. They don't cherish them. There is no reason why they should feel obligated to give them breath and show them off to potential story readers.

I deleted a few the other day. A clueless limey gave me a lesson in how to write Spanish surnames. Chupa mi penga! Bese mi culo! I had no idea. I bet his name is Mary Cone. Every real limey is Mary Cone.

I got upset the first few. But as has been stated already they say more about the writer than me. I can chuckle at some. I delete the ones that personally insult or threaten me.

You wont get any comments. TEX and PILOT stay mad at me about it.

Some people love to troll. I guess it gives them a kick to anonymously insult someone over the internet. No real danger of actually getting their ass kicked if they did it in real life. Ah, gotta love people.

Where I grew up boys with balls enjoyed insults, but now most are gelded like you, and fragile.

You grew up in a soft town. Must have been a bunch of pussies where you lived in the neighborhood. Where I grew up, the little girls threw temper tantrums and the little boys threw sticks and stones. Both both the little boys and little girls knew words never hurts. 👠👠👠Kant

I've had some personal attacks because I'm of mixed race. People are so mean and prejudiced.

I agree, it says more about the yutz taking anonymous cheap shots then the author. I like when the other readers hop on the yutz.

I'm not thin skinned, bring it on. I've heard and said worse and in real life not the safety net

I have seen a considerable reduction in comments. I turned anonymous comments off for the first time ever at the start of this year's Summer Lovin' contest.

But I am still getting some feedback and comments from sock puppet identities.

I get so lost here, seems like a lot of people have multiple accounts and they talk to themselves a lot!

I hardly have the time to manage one account.

Too funny

Lol on this thread you have people complaining about people complaining. Just ignore the comments I myself am too old to be cyber bullied as they say. Don't let the bad ones get to ya and listen to the constructive ones. Don't write for others write for yourself and share with others.
