For the longest time I thought scissoring was an act only done in porn videos, but a recent conversation I had revealed it is a real thing. As a male, I'm not sure I understand it, are they grinding their clits together or is it something else? Is it a common thing among lesbians? Please educate me.

Tribbing is the term, I understand. There's a fairly lengthy explanation in Wikipedia.

Scissoring can also be a wrestling move where the legs are locked around an opponent's body and pressure is applied to crush the opponent's chest.

Head scissoring? The legs are wrapped around the head and squeezed. That can be a variant of facesitting as a sexual fetish. Some people like being head scissored particularly if the woman is wearing nylon pantyhose.

If you are going to use scissoring in a story you need to make clear from the context what type of scissoring you are describing.
