Have you ever gotten one of those emails that starts off with the person saying they are "bored"? I automatically associate that with someone( mostly guys) that want sex. I don't get bored easily. I have tons of things to occupy me. It seems kinda "needy" to me when someone approaches me and tells me they are "bored". My next thought is " Like, damn, I bet they are boring in bed, too." (Haha)Kant.

I don't start off with "I'm bored" in the first PM. That to me kind of says "hey I've got nothing better to do so I guess I'll talk to you" but that's just me. I can understand it being 4am, not sleepy, not wanting to do anything extravagant so they come looking for someone to talk to. Kind of like saying "hi I have nothing else to do so I figured I would like to use my downtime to chat with you and maybe make a friend." Tone of voice does not translate well over text.

Boredom is a hallmark of a limited intellect, or the hallmark of a superior intellect.
It's tough to say. I'm rarely bored, but then I can find staring at a blank wall pretty entertaining.
Not sure what that says about me, but it's probably not a compliment.

That's more or less what Zelda Fitzgerald wrote "she refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn't boring".

My parents, and the parents of most people I knew as a child, had a very effective way of dealing with complaints about boredom - they'd find you the washing up to do, or the weeding etc. Anyone with 2 braincells to rub together quickly learnt to be quiet or find something to do or think about.

I got that same pm! Normally I respond to all even if it is a quick "thanks but no thanks". If he couldn't be bothered to take the time and effort to use capitols and punctuation then I don't have the time nor effort to respond! Straight to the dust bin with him.

I do not disagree with a lot of the points made in this thread about how a person doe not need to respond just because the other person says they are "bored".

I speak only for myself here; all others will have to defend themselves appropriately.
When I come to Lit, it is when I have the free time to do so. I am a night shift Security Officer, and I am paid to be bored by the standards of my job; if I am not bored, then a situation is occurring that requires my full attention to address it properly, and this usually entails dealing with stupid $#!t.
With that said, I want to be bored. But having no stimulation whatsoever is tedious and makes it a difficult shift.
Hence, I traditionally open with "How may I earn your company?" as opposed to "I'm bored- let's chat."

Good point. I do sometimes get bored, but it's welcomed as a chance to let my mind wander and work a few things out, I don't expect to be entertained.

I can't even remember the last time I was bored. When I reach a point of feeling like things are getting monotonous, I tend to start doing random things. A wise old man once told me, you always get bored when you go looking for something. Try going to look for nothing at all and you'll amaze yourself at all the things you never knew you were missing...... Oh, look, that's my favorite______. I remember that. Haven't seen it in ages. Damn, that brings back serious memories. Repeat the process. Attics and basements are a breeding ground for the imagination. Of, course I always have my inspiration room in the house where I do all my artwork

As a person who never gets bored, I've always been amused by the "I'm bored" approach. I've always translated it as "you must entertain me". Life (and erotic chat) is just so much better when we're entertaining each other with the same or similar things, opening and exploring this wonderful world and all it's amazing little corners.
