I don't get it but it is popular in some places. If you like it please explain to me what I'm missing.

The bulls don't like it, but every once in a while the bull wins.

I've never seen them cut off the matador's ear and give it to the bull, so I'm not sure what a winning bull gets out of the deal.

Bull fighting is an animal sacrifice ritual, not a sport. The bull doesn't really have a chance. The only reason he is there is to die.

That is how I see it. I was hoping someone could tell me what I'm missing.

Its a cruel and uncivilized. A blood sport of baiting and harassing the bull until some git in fancy pajamas kills it.

They should make the arena a quarter the size, get rid of the dudes on horseback and delete the barriers to hide behind. Just one man with a sword and a bull. Would make it a fair fight anyways.

Bullfighting guide The Bulletpoint Bullfight warns that bullfighting is "not for the squeamish", advising spectators to "Be prepared for blood." The guide details prolonged and profuse bleeding caused by horse-mounted lancers; the charging by the bull of a blindfolded, armored horse who is "sometimes doped up, and unaware of the proximity of the bull"; the placing of barbed darts by banderilleros; followed by the matador's fatal sword thrust. The guide stresses that these procedures are a normal part of bullfighting and that death is rarely instantaneous. The guide further warns those attending bullfights to "Be prepared to witness various failed attempts at killing the animal before it lies down."

*there is a somewhat lame argument that...*

Others, such as author Alexander Fiske-Harrison have argued that there are mitigating circumstances to this: "In terms of animal welfare, the fighting bull lives four to six years whereas the meat cow lives one to two. What is more, it doesn’t just live in the sense of existing, it lives a full and natural life. Those years are spent free roaming in the dehesa, the lightly wooded natural pastureland which is the residue of the ancient forests of Spain. It is a rural idyll, although with the modern additions of full veterinary care and an absence of predators big enough to threaten evolution’s answer to a main battle tank." Other arguments include that the death of animals in slaughterhouses is very often worse than the death in the ring, and that both types of animal die for entertainment since humans do not need to consume meat, eating it instead for taste (bulls enter the food chain after the bullfight).

*personally IMO that just puts slaughterhouses under an even worse light*

bulls that do survive are allowed to live out there lives back in the dehesa

Went to one in Spain about 3 years ago, the most evil an cruel thing I have ever witnessed, sickening

Lit must not have a bunch of poster from these places

From google

bullfighting is practiced in Spain, where it originates, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, as well as in parts of Southern France and Portugal.

I attended one bullfight. There were two things I liked about it. One was free margaritas. The other was the moment I saw a tiny, costumed man set a new record for the standing vertical leap while holding a sword. He had turned his back on an obviously bloodied and weakened bull to show his incredible courage before killing it. The bull snorted.

You might have to post on the Spanish speakers board. And be prepared to be called a troll, possibly.

Not even for that. Torture the matador and leave the animal out of it, and I might go then. Free margaritas and all...

I assume that means you eat no meat.

Let's not get off track here. Killing for entertainment is a completely different subject.

But chances are the bull actually does leads a better life and have a quicker death than a food beast. Cruelty is still cruelty.

I thought they used an air operated gun that killed cattle quickly with a shot to the brain.

You wouldn't eat eggs any more if you saw the conditions that laying hens live in. And what they look like just before they are taken away as cat food.

Well, I like lamb. A lot.

Btw: at least they don't beat the shit out of them to tenderize their meat, the way they do with dogs in China.

I didn't know they killed the bulls. :( I thought they just waved those red sheets around and went "Olay!"

There are males who post on the GB that have terrible self-esteem, and thrive on machismo.

So, I guarantee the sport has fans here.

Well, at least they picked a manly sport. Instead of ping-ping, like you do.

I don't care for it, but I don't lose sleep over it either. Handwringing over animals is for spoiled white people.
