I use music when I can't find my muse while I'm writing. I try to pick a soundtrack for different stories. If you use music in a similar way what bands and/or songs help you to write?

For example: Ani Difranco - Anticipate is my favorite song while waiting for inspiration...

For me it needs to be loud and obnoxious. Cradle of Filth is one of my go to bands.

My "Inspiration" playlist is what I listen to every time I write. It includes songs about falling in love, losing love, making love, etc. I just flip through it until I land on one that fits whatever scene I'm writing.

There's also my "Sex Scenes" playlist ;) It consists of only ten songs, and only a few that I play over and over:
Angel ~ Massive Attack
Inertia Creeps ~ Massive Attack
All the Time ~ Jeremih
Untitled (How Does It Feel) ~ D'Angelo

For the story I'm writing for Summer Lovin', I play Fire Meet Gasoline by Sia on repeat for hours.

My muse will only speak to me if there's music playing :)

I usually just play my playlist of about 350 or so songs that I regular listen to whenever I want some music. It mostly consists of rock music and some pop. That's just my taste of music, no other reason really. I do skip certain songs that don't fit the scene I'm writing though, or look for a particular one that has the feel I'm looking for. But for the most part I do just need some music to be able to write, it doesn't really need to be related to the particular story or scene that I'm writing.

This one of my writing playlists...

StarShips - Nicki Minaj
Titanium - David Guetta
Fist Pump, Jump_Jump - Ying Yang Twins Feat. Greg Tecoz
We Came To Smash (In A Black Tuxedo) - Martin Solveig Ft. Dev
Right Round - Flo Rida
Crazy Youngsters - Ester Dean

Big Pitch Perfect fan, huh? :)

Problem by Natalia Kills is one of the songs on my playlist.

One of my play lists is covers.

Slayer's in the gada da vida
Puddle of Mudd Gimmie Shelter.
Hotel California-Karl Anderson
God of Thunder-Death
Sympathy for the Devil-Tiamet(Thank you to Kantarri for turning me on to them)

I love that video.

The guy, the cigarette, the fingers, the crocodiles. . .

Lana is a "have to be in the right mood" type of artist, which I have been lately.

High by the Beach is a really fun song and Ride is a greeeaat one.

Whoever smeared vaseline on the lens should be fired!

I never gave Lana Del Rey a chance. The first time I saw "her" it was through the SNL parody.
But I really dig that song... and the video ;)

You forgot the tattoos.
I wanna pin him down and lick the one on his forehead all fucking night... :p

This is my current-for some time now-want to pin down and lick Singer

Taylor Momsen....sometimes she looks like a lost little waif, other times, like in this one, she looks like she'll rip you to shreds.

I'd let her give it a shot.

This video contains the only cross I'd be willing to worship under at 2:09

No kidding, right?

And you see her now-and I focus on now as she started Pretty Reckless before 18 I think....this girl is a wild cat, no way that's an act.

My wife sits there and is like "She's fucked the whole band, you know it." Then I say..."Tell me more, tell me how, in detail..."

oops sorry, getting carried away.

Lzzy haelstorm is pretty damn hot too.

I love Sia! Also, Zero 7 is excellent for writing sexy stories. The album "When it Falls" has gotten me through many a steamy sequence.

Snarky Puppy is also great for setting a mood. They're all instrumental, so there are no lyrics to distract you from your own words.

I've been listening to a lot of Aoife O'Donovan to write more moody, contemplative scenes.

This is my favorite coupled with the great video the guy put together for ot. Some sexy bad ass ladies in here.

That video is pretty awesome indeed. Daughters of Darkness certainly is a really good song. It's hard to choose a favorite song, but I think I would go with Freak Like Me, with Daughters of Darkness a close second.

I'd always loved the song Destiny by Zero 7 (which is on my writing playlist), but it didn't occur to me until a couple years ago that the singer is Sia.

I'll have to check out the album you mentioned :)

For me, Till Lindemann's voice is a major turn on--especially when that gorgeous man is growling at me--so if ever I need to um, jump start the muse, he's a good place to start.
