tonight, I will mostly be watching http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2278871/
because I deserve it. On the film score, Star Trek and the new Bourne are on my tick list :)
Ha. I read a lesbian porn story (on another site) about that movie just the other day. And, speaking of movies and as the resident authority on all things trans, did you see Tangerine? If so, what did you think of it? (I haven't seen it yet, but I gather it broke some stereotypes while but left others intact.)

Amazon keep telling me I should buy the DVD for Tangerine, but as an import it's quite pricey and meh... stereotypes. I'll prob get to see it at some point but seeing Matt Damon's arms is my priority :p

Local tv scened the 1st Bourne film last night and I am compelled to watch for hair-cutting scene *melts with goosebumps* ...even typing it here has made me go misty-brained. What a lush! :D

Finally got to see Star Trek :):) Only spoiled by Simon Pegg's awful Scots accent :(

Despite everything there are still threads like this on Lit

After wracking my brains, the only good thing I can say about it is that none of the posters have threatened to kill, so that has to be good.... right?

At home our garden has an ongoing problem with bindweed. We keep digging it out, spraying it with Monsanto, but it still comes back. So it's not a battle but a war: every day there is a new threat and new breakout - it is containment and it's fucking wearying.
That's what threads like that are like.

I was going to post on it, but I don't want to create trouble: people come here for whatever gets them off but jeez, they could at least show some respect - even pronouns - are they so difficult? Hopefully it'll sink into obscurity soon

You're asking for too much, I'm afraid, at least until gender identity issues have been a regular part of every school curriculum for a decade or two. In the mean time, the level of ignorance can reach appalling. Like many fetishes, this one erases the individual in favour of their physical characteristics (e.g. asians, BBC, etc.) and thereby serves to perpetuate stereotypes. Given the nature of this forum category, I can confidently state that there'll be another such thread within a couple of weeks.

*hugs*

I ran across a short film called "Ma Cherie" yesterday, in which a man speaks about his trans girlfriend. It comes across as rather male-centered (not just because he's the only speaking character, but because she's shown very little and he makes comments like "she's lucky to have me") but it does sympathetically portray a relationship in which the trans-ness of the female character is unimportant in and of itself, but only in terms of how it affects certain aspects of their lives (CW: mention of transphobic violence).

Yea, the cis-male perception of trans women: at this point I've only read the article.

So then I finished the article and read this "In this benighted reality, the identity and worth of a man is deemed to lie in his person, while the identity and worth of a woman is deemed to lie in her body. "Yup, Mischa and I, we're talking the same language.

OK, I'd better watch the short...

Having watched the film... *yea/sigh*
It's difficult to catch the nuances in translation but it felt very scripted and wooden. His neutral acceptance that one day she might be beaten up again or worse struck me as odd, as though it was a public information film.
I suppose the important message is the literal one: that trans women can be loved and loved free of fetish.
I have become so cynical of the mating game with regards trans women. Every day I read how one US state or another is using us as political pawns that can't fight back. Every day I get a follower on Tumblr I have to block because it is trans-porn related. I would rather avoid relationships, clubs, getting drunk - having normal fun - than run the risks.

This was sort of my feeling as well - taken literally, it demonstrates an open acceptance of trans women, but it comes across as failing to convey that very well at a deeper level. It was a nice try, anyway.

Did you happen to see that Caitlyn Jenner was on Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons broadcast on HBO? Bill is fairly well-known in the sports world for having the temerity to actually criticize the NFL commissioner. It didn't sit well with ESPN and they dumped him. HBO picked him up immediately. I like the guy.

Very good interview.

From reading your enlightening posts, I get a glimpse of what you are saying here. I do hope you stay alert for that rare person who loves you for who you are as a human being.

But capital-R-Relationships are not for everyone. I know someone who proudly states, "I don't do Relationships." Most interesting and charismatic person I ever met.

I know it shouldn't but this makes me laugh time after time. "People" are so narrow-minded. I have been asked if I was gay for the mere fact that I adopted singular they years ago already.
Needless to say when I shared my first sexual partner was a transgender I clearly was gay for said person. While sad I still can but laugh at it.

I didn't share to him that when I was a young adolescent I had a mega crush on Robert Smith [The Cure] or that I would fight any woman over Ed Norton.

And yes, I'm as alpha a male as many people can imagine. The fact that I can surrender to a leading partner merely consolidates such, because I'm comfortable with my [male] self and its orientation.

if it were only that safe...
but also

Needless to say when I divulged that my first sexual partner was a transgender I was labelled as gay by that person. While sad I still can but laugh at it.

It's sad yes and the writer of the comic doesn't compose without a big slice of irony. She isn't hoping to explore the full trans agenda in three frames but directs her humour towards a knowledgeable trans audience.

Maybe you could've challenged your friend, by asking him why sleeping with a trans woman made you gay?! If you're as alpha as you claim, I'm sure you could have pulled that off ;):D

Those sentiments are really not so unusual and not confined to trans folk at at all, it's me to a tee, and I'm a ostensibly ordinary, run-of-the-mill middle-aged cis-bloke. Other factors can lead you to exactly the same destination (ie a really, really nasty divorce with custody battles in court). Sometimes I'm certain I'll never have another relationship, and because I'm not a pubber/clubber I'm unlikely to be 'copping off' with anyone. Meh... Bothered? Not too much.

Hi Brad and thanks for the link, which I finally caught up with.
Hmmm.... looks like Caitlyn has finally calmed down. To be fair to her, living under such a media microscope must have been a hell of way to come out and find your feet. I still feel she is a bit of a loose canon but then... age, politics, celebrity - all the ingredients for facepalm cringer that's she been caught out saying in the past few months. She looks more settled... not sure about the lip thing, but hey, they're her lips  Maybe I'll get my lips done when I'm sixty

Still not seen Tangerine, but I saw Carol the other evening: Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. That's a good movie. Then I also saw Blue is the Warmest Colour, a French film about the relationship between two young women.
The weird thing is in both films, I was biting my lip with nerves because I was frightened that each couple would get caught and there was going to be some horrible scene that outed them. How telling was my reaction huh? In this day and age I get anxious about a film that is LGBT

Come to think of it, I watched a drama documentary about Alan Turing - his conversations with his therapist up until his suicide. I felt so desperately sorry for him and for science, and angry that he was treated like garbage. Thank heavens that being gay is no longer seen as a security risk, let alone being illegal.

It must be nice to be straight cis-gender and never have these thoughts cross your mind, but I wouldn't change who I am for a moment. Fucking trans and bring it on! grrr :catroar:

Party time

Please make sure you all have a glass of something bubbly and nibbles for Sunday evening ( UK time ) as I will have something to celebrate ;)
from 8pm, dress neked
no spoilers

hi

a question to m2f tg. apparently you have removed the male parts and formed female parts. do you get excited in anal, oral or formed vaginal sex?
