I've posted several stories this week in the Loving Wives section. So far, they have been BTB stories. I have noticed that if the readers don't agree with the story, sex, or ending they totally trash the score and leave terrible comments. Then they go to the other stories i have written and mark them all a 1. All of my stories, apart from one, had solid 4+ scores, now after posting these stories the scores have dropped considerably. I am not writing stories to get good scores, that isn't the issue.

I understand about the vipers den concerning posting in Loving Wives section however i try to post stories in both the BTB and RAAC POV. All the stories, apart from one, could have gone in the mature section and i am sure would have scored much higher.

I now realize why nobody posts in the Loving Wives section, however, this category should be the most popular on the site.

Authors, please post more stories in this category.

Nobody posts in LW? I doubt that. I know a number of authors who are active on this board post stories there on purpose, to stir up the commenters. When I see the New Stories list, I always see a number of LW stories.

I couldn't exactly tell you the psychology of people who read and post to LW, but from what I've read *about* it, it seems to be --

• people hate RAAC stories because they feel that cheating cannot be forgiven, no matter what, no matter if both parties have agreed to an open marriage or whatever
  
• people hate stories that involve cheating even if one or both partners have given permission, because
  
  • any guy who would allow his wife to cheat is a total pussy and not a real man
    
  • any woman who would cheat is a slut and doesn't deserve any kind of forgiveness
• BTB stories, I guess, don't go far enough if the woman is not totally mentally or physically destroyed, perhaps even to the point of death and even that is too good for her

So people hate cheating, no matter how it's framed, and no matter if the woman is tarred and feathered, or forgiven. So -- you can't win.

And yes, there do seem to be trolls who are so dedicated to this (and to me, don't have enough to do) that they will seek out your other stories and vote them down. There were idiots before the internet; now they just have more avenues to express their opinions anonymously and hence without fear of any kind of consequences.

Also: I don't see why this (or any other category) *should* be the most popular category on the site, since people come here with all kinds of things they want to read about and all kinds of things that turn them on or off. Erotic Couplings is the most popular to post to in the sense that it has the most stories; Incest/Taboo seems to be second.

I have a different approach to LW. I have been posting to LW for more than two decades. At first I felt WTF at the comments. Then I would write to provoke nasty comments. Then I wrote a several stories that got me great comments. All just to show what a bunch of hypocritical trolls are out there. Finally, I now write and post to LW but I turn off comments and voting. I'm hoping it frustrates the hell out of everyone who takes the time to read it and wants to post a nasty comment.

First off, thank you for being willing to write in the LW category. As a long time reader of LW, I know how abusive the anonytrolls can be. It takes a different kind of writer to post much, if anything, in LW.

From what other writers have said, I wouldn't worry too much about the 1 bombing. Lit does sweeps to clean them out, from what I understand. So your scores on your other stories should recover just fine.

While the readers are learning who you are as a writer, you will probably end up receiving a lot of unwarranted criticism. Just remember that the silent majority of readers are going to hope that you succeed.

Also realize that there will be constructive criticism as well.

(Just so you know, I lean more to the consequence/btb stories.)

My sex stories aren't all fantasyland sugar and honey. I like to mix in real world drama into my stories to keep them for the most part, believable to the reader. It's not just the Loving Wives category; I'm having the same issue in Transexuals & Cross Dressers. People fail to see how complicated a T-girl's relationship & life in general can be. We just don't up and fuck on a second's notice and perform ideal porn sex scenes. There is drama, issues, betrayal, cheating, lying, and hidden dangers associated with social acceptance among all other things typical to guy on woman sex & relationships. So, when I write my stories, I write from real world experiences. Scores/ ratings/& and negative feedback are just part of a much larger picture here. No one here is a "Steven King" nor an ignorant two year old brat learning how to form complete sentences. I write for my enjoyment to share with readers that want to read what I have painted out in words. Anything less, and I wouldn't stay on this site.

You're complaint is why people don't want to write there, its not worth the across the board trolling. I would also think by you writing both types of stories you're earning hate from both sides more than 'fandom'

The category is popular as in lot of reads and comments and decent amount of votes, but is it the kind anyone wants?

I can't imagine the other categories getting that kind of popularity. My one lesbian story however, has been hugely popular with over 65,000 reads in a little of three weeks. i have yet to post in other categories. but i am sure i will. thanks for your reply.

But ignoring my biases, it's well known to be a cesspit of vipers. Given the subject matter, that's hardly a surprise. Whimpering about it won't change that. Take Z's suggestion and turn off comments. Problem mostly solved.

It actually would be interesting if the site could show us the number of reads per day in each category. They do give us a number that I think is the number of posts in each category--so, popularity from the author's point of view. Erotic Coupling is by far the most posted-to category, followed by Incest/Taboo, followed by (believe it or not) Non-erotic poetry.

Loving wives falls down below Erotic Poetry in terms of the number of posts.

The number of reads is something completely different. LW does seem to get a lot of reads, but 35,000 reads in a day doesn't surprise me. I/T stories can get 1000+ reads/minute when they're new. As far as I can tell, Erotic Coupling tends to get fewer reads, but I also think there are stories in EC that rank among the most-read stories on Lit.

The idea that LW should be the most popular category is pretty foreign to me. I don't know why you might say something like that.

As a reader of LW almost exclusively , I have a few theories about this. They are totally unproven and probably way off the mark, but what the Hell.
First , the Trolling is predominately done by anon's , so first thing is to set your posts up for registered comments only.
If you turn off scoring , you will rile up the True readers who really take the category seriously. Just ask Swingerjoe.
If you go back to the tags portal , and go back to the earliest postings that allowed comments , then you will find that it has always been a rough place and not for authors with thin skin. Its not as though this is only a recent development.
Some of the most virulent trolls are probably former writers who's works got roasted by the comments section and scores, and those who have been banned from lit. I know of at least two for sure , and I'll wager they're plenty more.

Just the very nature of different kinks and/or squicks that exist in this category ( that by all rights and logic , should have been broken into different subsets ) causes MAJOR friction right off the bat.
You have someone who has had their world turned upside down beside of those who love swinging and willing cuckoldry rubbing elbows ( Story lines) in such close proximity , well Ray Charles could see what would happen there. It's a very serious subject to some and just a sexual kink to others. Nothing could ever go wrong there , right ? Lol.
I really liked your last two stories , and voted them high. One thing in LW , any story over a 4.0 should be given the Red box !

It also seems that the scoring gets higher for the writers who shut off anon comments, over time. My guess would be that the trolls get tired of trying to troll someone when they can't leave useless, personal attacks, so they move on to writers that let them spew their venom.

There are 26,763 stories in LW, making it one of the more popular categories in which to write. I have about a dozen or so stories there myself. I like writing in the category, and it is usually about stupid men who don't want to eat their wive's pussies.

Why do you write BTB stories? Do you find them erotic?

As a reader of LW, and having read many of the consequence stories, I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Consequence stories CAN be erotic, many do have erotic scenes (less with the btb and more with the raac). But the main draw, at least to me, is the conflict.

Whether the cheated upon spouse reconciles, walks away from, or burns the hell out of the cheater, you are almost always guaranteed a confrontation between the two(verbal, not physical). It is the confrontations and the resulting fallouts that draw me into the story.

And though I lean more towards the btb side of consequence stories, I have read, and been quite happy, with a reconciliation story if it fits character development and storyline.

To be honest, I think people read consequence stories more for the conflict, resolution, and aftermath, than for eroticism. As strange as that may sound.

Now time for me to shut up, and let the writers talk.

If you go to the index, every story category is listed by the number of stories. LW is not #1; that distinction goes to EC, but it is one of the higher ones in terms of stories posted. It may be #1 in the average of reads per story but I don't believe such stats are kept. If they were, I believe Incest would be first, followed by Anal and First Time. That's strictly my opinion, based on my own smut.

Romance is low, as are Non-erotic, chain stories, Sci Fi and EH.
