How interesting how that term has morphed over such a short span of years.

BnB starts a thread about how some individual is filled with "Hate" over some pin. A minor dust up in the political arena, but to use such an extreme word? Probably says a hell of a lot more about the individual using the term than the subject.

What do you "Hate?" Mice? Cockroaches? Asparagus? A pesto made with virgin Olive oil, sweet Basil, and Pine Nuts?

It seems that we have now degenerated to the point that Love/Hate is like Black/White with no middle ground or alternate view. This view is particularly prevalent on the left where any outlook on any particular situation is "Hateful', other than their own that is.

It's as if their itty-bitty brains just can't encompass an alternative thought. Or perhaps they refuse to make the effort. Or perhaps they think that by using the term "Hate" they can immediately label, and impugn, anyone that disagrees with their premise. The act of small minds.

Ishmael then.....
I hate you for posting that.

Seriously, your "bro" Chief Lee Obese will be along in the morning to remind you that people incapable of seeing things in terms of black and white are intellectually inferior, choices MUST be made if you're strong enough to make them, and real men reject "shades of grey".

First of all, in my books BoyNextDoor is part of the 'Lit. imbeciles' club.
He once sent me a pm, asking me to tuck my cock and stop trying to catfish him .
Plus am I surprised by such a less than nuanced view, coming from him? Of course not!

Secondly: awesome topic, I'm looking forward to reading all the -intelligent and constructive- replies.

Speaking of imbeciles:
Look who just posted! RacistDownSouth!
Ironic that he keeps accusing people of being alts., when HE is behind the Darbhinder racist attack troll.

I know more about Rob, and especially his penchant for "hating" other peoples children, than you can shake a stick at.

You can call a "Spade a Spade", just can't do it at Lit. anymore.

We are reverse engineering Toki Pona.

As people read less, they are using fewer words (and maybe even fewer concepts) and making each word mean so much more, but the downside is that every phrase is then unintentionally vague...

When he/she/it called me a racist, did they mean the philosophy of racism, bigotry, prejudice, or that they simply disagree with my point of view?

This is the problem with the well-meaning idea of people redefining words, so that literally becomes a mere emphasis, racism can be applied to the dislike of a religion, etc. It is supposed to be democratic, but like so much other liberal dogma of the past forty years it is profoundly individualistic. Humpty Dumpty in Lewis Carroll was supposed to be a philosophical absurdity, not a life-guide:

The point is that unless we can at least agree on definitions, as a society, then not only can we not agree, but we cannot even decide what we are arguing about. To define one's vocabulary one's self seems very lovely and individualistic and enterprising and all the rest, but if it cuts you off from understanding your fellow human beings then all you have built is your own conceptual prison. You might decorate it as pleasingly as you like, but a prison it remains.

Racism is anything you want it to be. It's magical, didn't you know?

And the law devolves from an instrument of justice and equality into some amorphous collection of words that produces different results depending on who the speaker is.

Hate often has its roots in fear, and since 9/11, americans have felt fear created by people who set out to make americans afraid.

Fear and hate shakes people's and societies values.

If you dont hang together, you'll hang separately.... In 2016, americans are hanging each other, which is why the world is shaky...because the usa is a lot like the happy wife/happy life saying to the world.

Aside: Trump has capitalized on harnessing patriotism to fight fear, but is using hate to fuel it... This will ultimately be his downfall, regardless of whether his fall happens in 6 months or eight years from now.

People simply need to believe in a better tomorrow and the rest of it will take care of itself.

The level of hate seems to have dissipated. Did someone leave or something?

Excellent point, old chum.
