From my perspective, two things changed Miles:

1. The death of his dog, Penny;
2. The election of Obama.

Prior to those events, Miles wasn't any fun, but had a lighter heart.

Hopefully when he does the luk/disgusting rebirth he'll be a hairgel butterfly, too.
