First Time or Romance?

Hello to everyone. I have a question about category. I'm working on what will probably be quite a short submission. It will come in at around 8000 words. It's quite simple. No twists or surprise endings. Just a tale of a young man (19) whose first time is with an older lady (52).

The back-story is they've been neighbours since he was born. His mother and the lady are friends, etc. One day he experiences an epiphany when he chances to see her sunbathing topless. He makes excuses to be around her. Of course, she notices the attention. Circumstances arise which mean the lady has to sell the house and move. The 'boy' helps with the packing. When it's complete, the lady seduces him.

I'm not using graphic language in sex scenes. It's a more gentle piece than 'stroke'. So, on that premise, would it work as Romance or would First Time be my best bet?

Another option is the Mature Category. Probably the best option.

Go with Mature. Twice here I had an option of another category and mature. I went with mature and both stories are in the mid 4.8's with a lot of votes and comments. Its a good category with a friendly readership.

And in the realm of kinks, the age gap would trump the first time.

I once mistakenly posted a story to Romance and regretted it. Stories there need to follow a formula; a couple overcomes barriers to build a lasting relationship and live happily ever after. Stories that don't fit that formula (or something very similar) are poorly received. From your synopsis your story doesn't sound like it would fit the Romance category.

The clearest category fit is First Time, and I think that's an advantageous place to put stories. Mature (the cougar angle) might provide an even better reception for it. Romance is crowded and so loose in content that I'd probably not consider putting it there, given the other category options.

I'll also recommend Mature because age difference. The category's readers are pretty forgiving.

Yeah, well, I think 8,000 is a short story for Literotica too (barely on to the third page). In e-publishing you have to get up around 15,000 words to be talking novella (maybe novelette--a new term for e-publishing, really--at 12,000 words).

There are some huge stories yes, but 8000 words is average length.

I didn't say it was a short story. I said it was a fairly short submission. I may be a recent addition to this site, but have been writing (and been published) for a number of years. So, while I thank you for your comment, it's largely unnecessary. I'm clear on the distinctions between story lengths, what constitutes a scene, etc.
