There was an article in Smithsonian about how the DuPonts gained their initial wealth manufacturing TNT: they learned to build their factories with three strong reinforced stone walls, and roofs and one wall (facing the Delaware river) made of wood. This made cleanup after the inevitable "whoopsie!" very quick and they could rebuild blown plants in record time.

Usually it's your precursor chemicals that are the most dangerous. A lot of safeguards go into modern explosive plants. Some cool devices which detect pressure fronts and shut stuff down and activate auto blast gates.

When working for a major chem company our flammable storage room had a blow out wall. Those who wanted a new car parked outside it. Those with new shiny ones parked on other side of building.
