SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A 14-year-old boy died Sunday after being wounded in an accidental shooting at a gun range, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the High Noon Gun Range, located on Bee Ridge Road, around 3:15 p.m. Officials say the boy, 14-year-old Stephen Brumby of Sarasota, was accidentally shot by his father, William Brumby.

The teen sustained a .22 caliber gunshot to the left jugular. He had significant blood loss and was taken to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

According to detectives, Brumby was positioned in the last shooting lane with a wall on his right-hand side. After firing a round, the spent shell casing struck the wall causing it to deflect and fall into the back of his shirt. He then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing. While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidentally fired. The round struck his 14-year-old son, Stephen.

At this time, no charges are pending against Brumby.

And yes, he should be charged.

The anti-gun crowd always expresses this bizarre glee when someone is killed. Pretty sick crowd.

Really this is primarily a case of shit happens and what are you gonna do about it? The man wasn't thinking and fucked up and that's as far as it goes. Even if I were anti-gun I'd still be down with shooting ranges. I'm kinda sad there are no tank ranges.

It's called a teachable moment. The anti-Obama crowd is always exuberant when terrorists kill anybody on the planet.

Obama? Terrorism? Stick to the subject please.

I'm on subject, your inability to follow isn't really my shortcoming. The important part is that these are supposed to be teachable moments.

You brought up Obama and terrorism which are not relevant to the topic, and now are attacking me for not wanting to veer off on your tangent? Go fuck yourself, I have no interest in speaking with you any further. You are a waste of my time. On to ignore.

lol, how dare he! You're a joke.

What she said. Children have died by taking them to Disney World or national parks.

Excellent point.

When kids have died at WDW, WDW made changes to try to make sure that never happened again, and WDW faced accountability in the courtroom. It doesn't look like anyone will be held accountable here.

It is completely relevant to your comment. I know you have on interest in speaking with me it's fine.

The two cases are different. WDW has a responsibility to keep dangerous animals off it's premises, even if doing so is absurdly difficult and if I understand properly they were taking reasonable precautions.

This is just someone making a stupid mistake.

This a parent's negligence resulting in the death of a child.

One of the main rules at ranges is that the barrel points downrange, not over your shoulder while digging around in your pocket.

There is no sentence or judgement to a parent worse than that of outliving their child and having to put them into the ground.

Have you zero sense of humanity, or, like so many Liberals, do guns just make you crazy illogical?

He could have been driving, stuck by a hornet, jerked, pulling into the other lane, killing his kid and you would press charges?
