Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

Okay so out of the archetypes that are left, is there any room for a semi-retired and world weary Billie Batson?

Actually... yes. Definitely Hell to the yes.

There was a Captain Marvel in the form of Nate Fawcett created and introduced by HotCider. But since HC left in something of a huff Fawcett has been relegated to an NPC and will be added to the roster of a Titans West team who will be operating largely off-camera, rather than being a Justice Leaguer.

So Billie Batson could easily be the sister or half-sister that Fawcett never knew he had, also inheriting The Power of SHAZAM, just as Mary Marvel was to Captain Marvel in the comics.

Hmm. Not sure if I want to go the Marvel family route but I'll figure something out.

No problem!

That was just an off-the-cuff suggestion for a continuity work-in.

If you decide you still want to go Marvel but don't want a link to the existing guy, I'm sure we can work around a workaround. We flexible here like we chugging Gingold, yo.

Yeah, sorry, Varshanka, Aussie, you guys go ahead and do your night-time picnic scene, I feel bad that I was going to interrupt that. You can keep the picnic timeframe going while responding to the Event posts happening "later," if that sounds doable.

My suggestion is to figure out in advance how that's going to wrap up, though, because the Event is going to kick off the next day in the morning California time. If your characters in the "present" are going to reference the events of the picnic happening in their recent relative "past," they should have some idea of how it ended up.

Okay?

Just for clarification they are currently January 31st sunset. I am fully expecting their date to be disrupted by some event that you are planning. If the event wasn't disrupted it wouldn't be Ghost Rider.

It won't be 'till daytime, if that's all right?

Can I assume you guys are going to pull an all-nighter?

Okay, so.

I have to write cues up for Topeka/Smallville for G.R.I.D., Boston/Cambridge for Velocity, and Dakota City for Static.

Tertius, if you want a cue for Beast Boy, let me know where you decide he'll be and I'll work one up. Otherwise, he can jump into one of the others, if you want.

Varshanka, same with Raven, keep me posted.

Other than that, things should go live, fingers crossed, later tonight or tomorrow.

I lifted a good chunk from HotCider's profile because I'm lazy.

Alter Ego - Wilhelmina "Billie" Janine Batson

Captain Thunder is 6'3", thick black hair, blue eyes, easily weighs 260 lbs and is has muscles like a panther.

Personality - She carries a heart of gold that is deeply buried under a sardonic wit. She is paranoid, depressed, and has anger issues, but can never fully give up on someone who needs help.

Gear - A rucksack that carries a few essentials(clothes and toiletries) along with a magic book and a deck of cards

Power/ability - Divine Empowerment: All of the powers granted collection of six by gods and figures of legend either directly or through Shazam.

SThe Wisdom of Solomon – As Captain Thunderl, Billie has instant access to vast amounts of scholarly knowledge, including most known languages and sciences. She has exceptional photographic recall and mental acuity, allowing her to read and decipher hieroglyphs, recall everything she has ever learned, and solve mathematical equations. She also has a great understanding of divine phenomena in the mortal world. The Wisdom of Solomon provides her with counsel and advice in times of need.

HThe Strength of Hercules – Hercules’ power grants Captain Thunder immense superhuman strength, making her one of DC’s strongest characters. She is able to easily bend steel, punch through walls, and lift massive objects. In the comics, this strength has been compared to Superman. The strength of the Golden Age Captain Thunder was unlimited, and the character was strong enough to move stars and planets.

AThe Stamina of Atlas – Using Atlas’ stamina, Captain Thunder can withstand and survive most types of extreme physical assaults, and heal from them. In some stories, The Stamina of Atlas makes Captain Thunder invulnerable. The Stamina of Atlas also prevents her from getting tired.

ZThe Power of Zeus – Besides fueling the magic thunderbolt that transforms Billie into Captain Thunder, it also enhances other physical and mental abilities and grants her resistance against all magic spells and attacks. The hero can use the lightning bolt as a weapon by dodging it and allowing it to strike an opponent or other target. The magic lightning has several uses, such as creating an apparatus, restoring damage done to the hero, and providing fuel for magic spells. The current-continuity version of Shazam is able to personally generate and control lighting for various uses. He also can use it readily from his fingertips. The Power of Zeus enhances the levels of Shazam’s other powers as well. From Zeus’s power, Captain Thunder inherits her invulnerability.

AThe Courage of Achilles – This aspect gives her the courage and bravery of Achilles. It also aids the hero’s mental fortitude against most mental attacks.

MThe Speed of Mercury – By channeling Mercury’s speed, Captain Thunder can move at superhuman speed and fly.

In her retirement she has gained some skill in illusion. Not near the likes of Zatanna or Doctor Fate, but enough to fool the common pedestrian.

Weakness
- Strong currents of electricity and powerful spells. Being discouraged enough to give up the fight, speak the magic word and go back to being human.

Bio - Billie ran away from her latest in a long string of terrible foster homes when she was nine. The harsh knocks of life had done their damage. She trusted no one and nothing. It was easier to look out for herself, by herself, than try to fit into this terrible world any longer. However, the wizard Shazam saw past all of that. Despite his extreme reluctance to name Billie as his champion, there was a potential for good in her that he could not let be completely snuffed out by the world.

From the ages of ten to fifteen, Billie was Captain Marvel. For once she could do something about the injustices in her life, but that potential for good had her helping others soon enough instead. Eventually she was invited to join the Justice League and what she thought was to be the greatest period in her life turned out to be her downfall. Heroes that she had spent her childhood idolizing, who were supposed to be above corruption and cruelty and hate, were revealed to be just as petty as the next person. For years, she tried to tough it out, tried to be a friend and help where she could, but eventually there was an incident with Superman that couldn't be ignored. The Justice League held a vote to determine Superman's guilt in letting his hate cloud his judgement. They ruled that Superman could stay, so Billie left in disgust and that was that.

Now it's been almost thirteen years since she's dared speak the word 'shazam'. She's seen the new Captain Marvel on tv and hopes things are turning out better for him than they did for her. She had eventually returned to foster care and played with the system long enough to get herself an education, but she still mostly lives off the streets. Despite not being Captain Marvel any longer, she still has the powers of s.h.a.z.a.m. and she's still never quite shaken the habit of being a hero. Now she drifts from town to town, helping those that are overlooked by both law enforcement and the league.

Song and one for really all of her relationships (family, friends, and lovers)

It's not laziness, it's continuity! :D

...interesting League tie-in. Especially given the bit about Superman. It adds a dimension I did not expect.

I need to think on that.

Other than that, she looks fantastic!

My heart just still really bleeds for Billy in the JLU universe. That poor kid needs all the hugs.

Alllllll the hugs.

Well, we already have elements of the JLU in this continuity. While I generally hold Superman to a high standard, upon consideration it would not be unprecedented for him to go to a gruff 90s place in his frustrations over not being able to stop Luthor.

And given that Billie would have been young and pure of heart, seeing politics and drama beset The League behind the scenes would prove extra disheartening to her.

Okay, I'm cool with this.

I just have one question.

Earlier on The OOC, we determined that The Watchtower had been kept a secret from non-Leaguers, so when The Watchtower disappeared from orbit with the full complement of active Leaguers aboard for an emergency meeting, almost no-one on Earth knew to look for it. No-one directly connected with The New League has had any idea that The Watchtower existed.

In order to preserve that mystery, could we say that Billie's membership in The League predated the construction of The Watchtower, so she doesn't know it's gone either? Would that be okay?

Chas, mind if I use Ms. Graves for a bit for my intro? Do you think she would have been around back in Billie's League days?

I suspect that she's a bit young for that.

But Hope would have been, does that work? Immortal African Amazon?

We did a joint post with her and Varshanka's Wonder Girl earlier on, you could use that as a reference?

Yes. That should work. I'm mostly using her as a messenger that Billie would recognize being on Luthor's behalf.
