Economically, Liberalism strongly embraces Keynesian Economics, which has been proven twice (The Great Depression and The Bush Recession) to ameliorate the effects of business downturns.

Socially, it provides maximum protection of the minority from the whims of the majority. It also provides a safety net for those who need it (the retired and disabled mostly, but also the extremely poor....there is considerable overlap between the three).

In summary: no person should ever have to die as a result of someone else's insistence that they embrace their toxic political ideology (i.e. social darwinism).

The weak and poor should NOT have a duty to shuffle off the mortal coil to make others more wealthy.
