Aussies! Check in here!

Good morning all :)

Well, most of the flooding in Tas has subsided enough that repairs can be started. Roads, bridges, etc have been washed away and loads of buildings have been affected.
Life is pretty much back to normal, albeit with more work thrown in.

Shocked and surprised to hear Shorten's answers on the Q&A program on Monday night.
Don't like the guy.... but found myself nodding in agreement with him more than once!
This election will be interesting.

Hey WQ

Good to hear that Tassie has turned a corner and that things haven't got any worse but the reconstruction will no doubt take a while. Saw that some businesses as usual are having issues with their respective insurance companies.

Yep I was the same when viewing Shorten's stint on Q&A he seems to be coming into his own at the end of the campaign. He certainly was listening and willing to say what he wouldn't do. Turnbull still seems awkward when talking to people. Lots of rah rah practiced speaking. I reckon its going to be closer than people thought it would be at the start of this.

Your elections can't possibly be worse than ours!

Yes ours are rather civilized compared to how things are going in the US. Seems people over there are now getting concerned Trump could win. Personally I don't think the average citizen in the US will let that happen but kinda troubling that he could get that far. The Republicans will have a lot to answer for after this is all over. They will spend a long time in the wilderness.

We have a politician called Katter who is a nut job like Trump. His latest campaign add shows him seemingly shooting dead members of the two major parties. This video was released soon after the Orlando shooting. However unlike Trump, Katter is on the fringes so no chance of a similar Trump style rise to power.

Afternoon all,

Well it has been a wet day timetable for the last two days. Got rained on all day yesterday, was supposed to arrive later in the day, obviously it has places to be.

Had to sort out an issue with Medicare for my mum. Discovered that Medicare can just reject a payment and not tell you. Its their policy to wait till you complain, reason given is that they have too many rejections therefore can't be bothered even if they caused the problem as was the issue in my mum's case. Medicare stuffed up the payment then just left it and was waiting for my mum to complain. No consideration for customers. The elderly have no chance under this new system and everyone else just accepts the system.

Just been watching the Copa America. Wasn't expecting much but it turned out to be entertaining with red cards, yellow cards, sending players off and even the Ecuadorian coach was sent off but didn't leave.

Watched the doco on Trump trying to build a golf course in Aberdeen and how he basically bullied people, cut off people's utilities while the cops watched on, took over people's land illegally all with the knowledge and agreement of the local police and govt. A small example of how Trump operates even telling someone on camera that he wants neighbouring houses demolished and didn't care if it was illegal. He even destroyed the local eco-system. I wasn't aware of this incident but all those in the US who want to vote for Trump should watch this doco.

Mrs. Clinton is equally as nuts, and a murderer, which Trump isn't. As far we know, anyway. This ain't good.

Hi australia
I know this is an aussie thread and seems to have gone off on a tangent
but I have to ask does the united states even have an education system I can't believe how much bullshit people believe

Doesn't that apply equally here?

I know but we get over it
there were 3 inquiries after that guy died all saying it was suicide
Shorten was accused of rape cops said no charge to answer and we moved on
(whether it was right or wrong I do not know)

Good morning, another lurker from Melbourne.
Long time listener, first time caller

I have a question that's bugged me for some time.

DarkElf
You're a pie man with a Tiger avatar?

lol...you do realise that any Americans who read that will have NO fucking idea what that means, right?

And that's the way we like it, eh?:)

That'd be hilarious if it wasn't for the seriousness of the insidious infiltration of the American popular cartoon culture and, in particular, the Disney conglomerate globally. Australia has had it for years. China, more recently.

Chinese people apparently can't get enough Disney. Witness the new Shanghai Disneyland. I've seen the new TV ads that show a little Chinese girl being magically changed into a princess and Mum and Dad then taking her to the new Disneyland.

Chinese people dressed up as Mickeys and Minnies are regularly used to promote innocuous products like tissues or beer.

Even the gated community my wife and I will be moving to soon looks 'kitschy' with herds of concrete deer, Snow White and Dwarves, and other characters filling the landscaped areas. ugh..

Still funny though, thanks from me.:D

I'm laughing all the way to the bank. It's a great stock holding!

Didn't watch them yet. Heard the Brits defended like savages.

To answer a previous question, it's a combination of our educational system and a biased media. But yeah, people just can't think for themselves.

Ah yes, England. Chalk it up to being an "annoying Yank," as one of my old time posting buds used to refer to me.

But point of reference, Wales and Scotland are Gaelic, and I'm not sure they'd consider themselves "Brits." Haven't seen the Scots results, But Wales isn't doing so well (no surprise) and Ireland did well last week.

I'm just hoping we look good against Italy. Don't know the results yet, game is getting replayed here tonight.

Howya been? Still on the road? :)

the welsh would go fookin' mental if they could hear ya lump them in with us english! :D

the scots had their vote about that. it was a squeak, but they're brits.

the northern irish aren't however, but they're in the UK. :D

italy are nowhere near the push-over they were. and they've got a new head coach - connor o'shea - who's just left harlequins for the job.

Voting in Chengdu at the Australian Consulate on Friday. That's a 90 minute very fast train ride there and back for 130 rmb return (that's about AUD$35).

Hope you 'guys' vote early...and often!

Well just give Trump time, giving him the nuclear codes isn't good for the world. The share markets will all crash even here in Aussie land since we are in a global economy these days. It's in the hands of the citizens of the US as to what happens next. Putin must be thinking..."and they reckon I'm nuts"

Yep they certainly do have an educational system if you have the money and yes there are lots of people in the US who still don't know much about the rest of the world, however the knowledge is better than it was 20 yrs ago although some of them still get us confused with Austria. But you can't beat their patriotism and self believe in their country we could do with a splash of that, but not too much.
