Holy hell, alligator

Wasn't there an alligator swimming with a body in it's mouth last week?

I live in Florida and we assume gators are everywhere. I mean everywhere. We also know to look out for them. Disney should have been watching out for them. The place was built in a swamp.

Agreed. I used to be in Orlando a couple times a year for work and everywhere seemed to have alligator fences. Not that I ever thought they would stop a determined gator.

Determined alligator can out run humans. Up to 30mph. Give them their respect. They can and will eat you while you are taking your selfie.

I know, saw one way too close to us in se texas, the thing walked so effortlessly on land like it was gliding, super powerful, was not thrilled.

Did not even consider a selfie, let alone a picture.

:( You hear things like this and you want to wish it wasn't real.

Yes. I could offer a little information, but this thread is making me sad and sick and I'm going to find some happier thoughts than how the parent's lives have essentially ended, too. They'll never be the same.

What the hell was an alligator doing at Disney world?

Was it wild or part of some kind of exhibit?

it was a resort. they were hanging out on the waters - connected to the wild.

As far as I can tell they weren't doing anything unusual, just normal Disney stuff on the beach with others. Watching a movie.

Its very sad, that poor baby.

Disney was built in 43 square miles of swamp land. Much of it has been left wild including the waters around the parks and hotels. Alligators adapt to humans.

:rose:

it really is a sad thing. on the heals of orlando's tragedy. fucking animals.

Normally, a certain level of black humor is called for. I think it must help with the grieving process, some sort of defense mechanism. You see it in cops and nurses a lot.

With Noor's post my first thought was to make some plagues and pestilence joke, "What next? Frogs, or locusts?"

I held off because the scale of this thing is so bad. I don't know when would be 'Too soon?'

I disremember the details but it seems some comics went on immediately after 911 to say, "You didn't bruise our spirit." sort of thing.

My one part is that I am trying not to read news reports about it. I do not want this creature's* name drilled into my consciousness. He deserves no recognition, not even infamy.

*I'm referring to the alligator, of course.

some things are flukes of nature. you can educate and follow the signs, but in the end, nature takes course. how many signs do resorts need to have. i am afraid to go out on the waters near me because of gators, snakes and alligator gar, yet people swim out there all the time.

it's the lonesome dove water moccasin scene that does me every time. worst nightmare ever.

I live in Florida. All the things you list are very real. So are lightnings strikes, hurricanes, sink holes and the most dangerous thing I do is drive around in my car. I have way better odds of being killed by that.

I don't mean to be snarky but if you can handle the risk of driving a car you are pretty safer in anything else you do.

Its been a tough week for Orlando, first the singer murder, then the night club shooting and now this.

New Disney Thrill ride.

The Mouse That Roared.

Two different ones in different parts of the state.

It has been. We are sad. I don't know if that comes out in the media. We are just sad, shocked and don't really know what to do.

When our bridge fell into the river we were that way and to some extent last month with Prince
