Nothing puzzles me more than LIT writers who embrace their ignorance and insensibility to better writing practices. But its common here.

Simple human nature and not limited to writers. Many people want nothing but praise and want to think they know it all.

I've noticed some people branded 'trolls' in comments and even on the boards aren't really trolls, they're simply not ass kissing, but to the thin skinned anything but "You're awesome' is trolling them.

There's a line in the classic comedy Airplane that reminds me of the type of person who can't listen to advice

"Chump don't want no help, chump don't get no help."

My only question is, whose better writing practices? Some peoples better ain't better writing. Different people different tastes. What's so hard to understand about that.

It would probably be better if you stopped trying to be the writing guru and using the hey look at me approach.

Hey LC, it's good to see you finally have your head on straight. ;) It was a little crooked there for a while.

What is obvious to some is less obvious to others.

For instance, your avatar pic clearly shows someone who is ignorant of drawing. They drew a revolver that either a) were trying to draw an 8 chamber revolver (whereas most most revolvers are 5 or 6 chamber), or b) put a large blank area between a set of three chambers and the next set.

It also depends on what is important to some and what is less important to others.

For instance, you probably don't give a toss that your profile image is incorrectly drawn. As a mechanical draftsman, it makes me cringe to see such low effort in drawing, but all you probably cared about was what the image portrays and not how accurate it is.
In other words, "it's just a fucking avatar pic for Chris's sake!"

To that I would respond, "...and it's just a story that people don't make a dime off of."

Not to mention, the hole in the barrel is over twice the size of the bullets in the chambers.

After I posted the question I read an essay from the IBM corp that suggests people are cowards when it comes to risk taking. They lack self confidence and confidence in new tricks. They need hand holding and atta-girls.

That too. Also the sight is also off center, the finger guard is off center... I could go to town with what's wrong with it, but I was just touching on something simple, obvious.

It has to stay straight, at least until the discs fuse:eek:

Which only means, the better half is flashing you just out of the corner of your eye. And probably has a couple of her girlfriends doing the same. :D

Maybe i shouldn't have given her any ideas.

I kinda get your obscure reference. People post stories only for hearing praises and aren't interested in comments that critique, which I have addressed in another post and agree with you in part.

Kind of like how you overlooked my critique of your avatar pic.

I'm blind in one eye anyway so what else is new? :D

I understand believe me.

Oh yeah, lay off the pain killers. You and pilot had a couple of civil conversations over the last few days and it's freaking people out. Some are speculating on the end of the world.

Pain pills and muscle relaxers....my wife said in the sixteen years she's known me she's never seen me this laid back.

The writing has been interesting.....

Screw perfection, it's the story that counts. Communication is not a perfect science, though there are many who claim it to be.

I'm sure the first cubists were equally maligned for not following what defined great art.

Pleasing you is low on my list of priorities. Make it worth my time.

Cubists are squares squared. :D

Being a writer is ever evolving but some stories need devolving. Like I said earlier, better is a taste not a concept.

Most of these comments is is why.
And why does a simple avatar have to be perfect?

By the way, we moved away from the "Loving Wives" group and haven't gotten a bad comment anymore even though our stories are written just as crappy as before.

We don't write to win awards or make perfectionists happy. We write to share and have fun. We have a lot more ready to post but Laurel is getting tired.

Not to mention, the hole in the barrel is over twice the size of the bullets in the chambers.

It could be an attempt at perspective since the muzzle is closer to the viewer than the cylinder...

But the hand looks so huge compared to the cylinder that it makes me think if the revolver is supposed to be a toy gun.

Note how the Usual Suspects (LOVECRAFT, PILOT, TEX) hijack when they cant address the thread topic.
