I think the only reason we don't hear about it is because of the "taboo nature". It's not like someone can say 'My brother and I have sex almost daily.' without everyone freaking the fuck out. If you're both consenting adults, then who cares, you're not hurting anyone. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if 3 in 10 people have had some kind of sexual contact with a close relative; and at least 3/4 of the population have thought about it.

I can say that I really do feel that I am one of the truly blessed ones in this community.

After several (each) failed marriages my wife (who is also my cousin) and I reconnected at a family event. We had been living some 3,500 miles and 4 time zones apart since our first 'connection' decades earlier.

After a long, long-distance relationship we decided she would move closer, like into the same room.

At first we were concerned how our families might react to this. However after speaking to our respective parents we realized that some 50 years earlier her father and my mother had been in exactly the same situation, kissing cousins. But in that day and age that sort of thing did not happen and so they each married their respective spouses instead.

When we announced what was going to happen our parents were ecstatic that we were able to enjoy our life together as our parents had not.

Now, many years later, neither of us could even imagine living without the other.

Just to complete the 'family affair' we had 2 of her nieces move in with us while they attended university. This was followed by one of them moving in, part-time at least, her bi lover.

There are sexual predators who victimize children in their own families and then call it "incest." The term is also commonly used by those who advocate for sexual abuse victims, to the point that clinical literature about "incest" is almost exclusively about sexual abuse.

This wouldn't be so bad if there were a separate word that specifically and only referred to consensual sex between related adults. But there isn't one. The word incest is used as a name for both situations.

This creates endless confusion and drama. Mention incest and many people will immediately assume that you are talking about a child being sexually abused by his or her parents, something that every decent person is totally opposed to, and rightly so. Worse yet are the evil predators themselves who also assume you are talking about the abuse of children. I've had the misfortune of encountering such predators online. As disturbing as the idea of children being abused is, it is far more disturbing to encounter someone who likes the idea.

Sex between consenting adults is sex between consenting adults. It does not suddenly become a horrible crime just because the consenting adults in question are closely related. Most people are not interested in sleeping with anyone in their family, but that doesn't make it wrong when consenting adults do.
