Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

Kiz, about the lottery thing-- I'm not sure what you were going for so I'm clarifying, I'm not wanting to kerfuffle you--

--unless I misremember, I think that the standard policy with multiple lottery winners is that the winnings are divided between the winners rather than the same amount being given out multiple times. So the Powerball people wouldn't have to give out ten thousand billion dollars, a billion each to the ten thousand winners, but split the billion between the ten thousand.

So people are rioting because they're not getting the billion dollars that they thought they should have won, but because they're getting a comparatively minuscule fraction of that billion, is that right?

...and the lottery company may still go bankrupt depending on their financial management, because even though they don't have to pay out ten thousand billion dollars, they're still paying out the whole billion all at once split between all these ten thousand people. They don't get the option to pay it out over a lifetime of annuity payments or in a significantly-reduced single lump sum. ...am I getting that correct?

Either way, the street-level NYPD is left dealing with a big ol' bunch of angry people who got shortchanged out of riches in a sluggish economy, and a lottery company whose cupboards are suddenly a lot barer than they'd like.

Oh Gimme gimme gimme LOL :D:heart:

If I had a scanner, I would!

...it seems like it can go into our timeline pretty verbatim, depending on what you want to keep of Cyberforce's history. The only change I would have to make on the JLA end is that this League's Watchtower was on The Moon and ours would have been an orbiting satellite.

As I have not read it I will give you a brief rundown of what I am thinking so you and Var can give a Yay or nay.

I was going to take out Stryker and just keep the team to Impact, Heatwave, Ripclaw, Cyblade and Velocity. However I was also going to explain some of their powers as being Meta in origin and only giving them basic cybernetics instead of the full packages they had in the comics.

Also they would all be teenagers to young adults instead of some being older.

I can reference that the JLA helped take down both the HIVE (with the Teen Titans help) and the Science Squad to finally allow them to come out of hiding and return to a semblance of normal life.

I'm amenable to that!

Again, just so long as the teenagers aren't younger than 18, Lit Standard Time, that should all be good to go.

The Powerball drama

The problems as I see it would be: (1) Rioting because either people are pissed they didn't choose the number and/or because they won but only ended up getting a few hundred bucks, and (2) The integrity of the Powerball is now suspect, which means people aren't going to want to play it in the future as a result. I think either way, the state gets their cut of the billion dollars, which is like 30% if it's direct pay out or more if it's annuity (because they get to invest the full principal and pay out small amounts of overtime).

Okay, yeah, I think I smell what you're stepping in.

Carry on! Thanks for clarifying!

Kind of like that scene in Jim Carrey movie 'Bruce Almighty' when everyone won the lottery and went off the deep end because they ended up winning a $1 each.

Out of curiosity does that mean that the league was recruiting from the start or did they still go through that weird supremacist faze where they only trusted the founding members?

They weren't recruiting from day one but the second wave of new members did come aboard relatively soon after the founding, as I alluded when we talked about Cyborg.

Though there was a bit of a debate between Bats, Supes, and J'onn about it.

I've got a lot of reading to catch up on.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, no worries, feel free to focus on the meeting-room stuff. We're planting seeds for other characters but they won't directly intersect with the current official Leaguers until we're into the next event.

Smells Like Teen Spirit.

I have the ability to overcome great fear? News to me.

Alter Ego - Jessica Cruz

Alias - Teen Lantern

Age - 18

Appearance - Jessica is 5'6" with long dark hair-- so brown it's almost black --and golden-brown skin and green eyes.

Personality - Jessica has a good heart. But it's been broken.

Inexperience, agoraphobia, and PTSD cause her to hesitate.

But at her core is a breed of courage that she is just learning to tap.

Gear (optional) - Deputy Green Lantern Ring.

A few years ago, Green Lantern John Stewart found himself in charge of the bizarre cosmic experiment known as The Mosaic, in which a mad old Guardian had transplanted cities and towns from planets across The Universe and meshed them together. In his efforts to ride herd on the various clashing species and personalities of this "alien ant farm," John decided to bestow lower-powered versions of his own Ring on a few human children. They would then help him keep the peace in their own way.

Jessica has a Ring like one of these. It responds to her will and creates plasmic energy constructs according to her imagination. It enables her to fly, fire off energy blasts, project forcefields, scan her environment, phase through walls, provide her with tutorials and interstellar intel-- virtually anything she can envision. But its power reserves are lower than that of a full Green Lantern Ring, it has a lower maximum output, and it retains the inherent vulnerability to objects and energies colored in hues of yellow according to the fear of the wielder.

She can use her Ring to create a uniform for herself based on The Green Lantern Corps dress code. It can also disguise her as someone else, though this is not bound to the standard Green hues of The Ring's energy.

Jessica has a Green Lantern Battery cloned off of that of John Stewart which functions identically to other Batteries of The Green Lantern Corps, though when she charges her Ring its maximum capacity is far short of a full Ring's capacity.

Weakness - Jessica is struggling to overcome post-traumatic stress and agoraphobia from a trauma four years ago. She has a tendency to overthink and to freeze that makes her vulnerable to fear and therefore vulnerable to the color yellow.

Additionally, Jessica's Ring is not as powerful as those of an official member of The Green Lantern Corps and she is subject to those shortcomings as well.

She has been trained by her survivalist family in some measure of tactics and weaponry and "doomsday prepping," but she has never been officially trained on Oa by Kilowog or another drill sergeant in the use of her Ring or in the methods of The Corps. As such, her inexperience is a major flaw.

Bio - Growing up in Seattle, Washington, Jessica belonged to a family with an interesting perspective on the phrase "be ready for anything." They taught her woodland survival and how to prep in case of society's dissolution.

But hypothetical trainings may only go so far in the face of real-world violence. When she was 14 years old and on a hunting trip in The Cascade Mountains with family and friends, Jessica and a number of her classmates went for a hike away from the cabin and campsite.

To their horror, they stumbled upon a number of mobsters who were burying bodies-- and as the mobsters certainly didn't want witnesses to their makeshift gravesite, they proceeded to murder these teenagers in cold blood. Jessica barely survived-- it would be a stretch to say that she escaped with her life.

In the four years since, Jessica has been haunted by nightmares of those events. For the longest time, she refused to leave her family's apartment, well-stocked as it is with guns and other supplies.

A month or so ago, before the vanishing of The Justice League, Earth's Green Lanterns were summoned into space to deal with a threat of cosmic proportions-- all The Corps were being ordered to amass in response to a Great Darkness foretold in The Book of Oa.

Unwilling to leave the planet or the Sector completely undefended, John again decided to deputize a young person with an auxiliary Ring spawned from his own, as he had during his time guarding The Mosaic. He scanned with his Ring, and found three people in range who had the ability a Ring would require-- the ability to overcome great fear.

The first was Guy Gardner, previously ousted from The Corps for insubordination and wrathful violence unbecoming a Lantern, and currently Ringless after the loss of the Qwardian Yellow Ring originally used by Sinestro.

The second was Simon Baz of Detroit, Michigan.

The third was Jessica Cruz of Seattle, Washington.

As Guy had already been ousted from The Corps, and Seattle was closer than Detroit, John swiftly flew to Washington to recruit Jessica-- though he made a note to point out Baz to the others as a potential recruit when they got back. (If they got back.)

Presenting a disbelieving Cruz with her deputization and Ring, John apologized to her for not having time to train her further before saddling her with this great and terrible power. The Guardians' call had been immediate and imperative and he risked disciplinary action lingering this long. He did tell her, however, to contact The Titans in New York City, as they were good people experienced with coming into such great responsibility at so young an age.

He departed into hyperspace in a storm of green Green light, and thereafter she was left with a choice, a Ring, and the fears in her heart.

Eventually she was able to overcome her terror and leave the apartment, flying to New York to join The Titans and subsequently receiving training from their number. She remains a Titan in good standing to this day.

Notes - Jessica will not be joining The Justice League at this time, but will remain a Titan. But my hope is that she will intersect with important events later on that I suspect might require a full bio.

Now the Titans are in NY? Who else is on their roster?

Also, is it possible to get the first post updated so it reflects the current roster, it's hard to keep track of everyone with the roster buried in 13 pages.

The Titans have been in New York since earlier on in the IC.

Aquaman and Hotline had a conversation with Lex Luthor at Titans Tower.

A full complement has not been disclosed, but--

Aquaman and Hotline were both Titans before joining The New Justice League.

Raven will have been a member of The Titans before she joins The New League.

TertiusHuman and I are discussing a version of Beast Boy, but his origin hasn't been hammered out yet and it might not involve The Titans.

Tim Drake is a Titan, whether as Robin or Red Robin.

Wally West has only appeared as Kid Flash in (heh) flashbacks thus far, but presumably he's a Titan.

Cyborg was both a Titan and a member of the original Justice League, but Cyborg vanished with that League.

Superboy has been mentioned off-camera; I've implied a backstory for him based on his pre-Flashpoint continuity.

And now Teen Lantern, obviously.

There may be others. A Speedy, perhaps? I think Raven's bio implied a Starfire.

But I wouldn't let it worry you overmuch if you're concerned that they'll interfere with Kiz' activities. New York's a big city, plenty of room for heroes to muck about in, as Marvel can attest.

My intention is to keep The Titans largely off-camera in their own adventures, except where they overlap with our storyline and our "shared universe" arcs. Right now, that means frantically trying to make up for the absence of the original League, at least until The New League finds its footing and grows to fulfill its legacy and destiny.

My plan is also to have form a Titans West team in the Jump City district of San Francisco, which is where Silver Bullet and Captain Marvel are going to end up, also largely off-camera.

Yeah, sorry about that. :/

Varshanka and I took over for Legend as co-GMs.

It's up to Legend if he wants to edit his original post to match the changes in the roster, but I didn't want to pressure him because I know he's got a lot going on IRL.

Generally, if you use the search function in this thread for the word "roster," you'll come up with any one of my roster updates, and by clicking on the arrow in the quoted block it'll take you to the post in the thread that I've been editing to keep up with the rapid changes that have taken place.

Or, more simply, it's right here: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?p=76087856#post76087856. In case you wish to bookmark it.

When we became co-GMs, Var and I had the option to either start up a new thread from the same idea, or go with the thread already in progress. Both choices had their benefits and their flaws. Not being able to quickly and simply edit those initial posts is one of the flaws, but there are ways around it. Sorry if they're a tad circuitous. :/

Well he could have a link at the top to a landing post that you control. Just a thought. I did that in my game, where I have just a bunch of links from the landing page. Food for thought.

Hahah, that made me smile. I <3 some dark tower.

I do too!

I need to finish it, one of these days.

John was actually referencing "Shardik," Richard Adams' story of a bear that might be a god, which is who King named that bionic bruin after in "Dark Tower."
