Hello Literotica Authors,

I am relatively new to this community and want to introduce myself. I was an English minor in college, but am getting a later start to creating writing (I'm 32). I've always wanted to write short stories but never knew where to start or how to get into it. When I read about literotica's community of volunteer editors and saw how positive and helpful everyone is, I decided to start here.

I jumped right in and posted my first story on May 12th, 2016. Since then I've studied a lot about creative writing. Currently I'm reading:

Fiction Writer's Workshop by Josip Novakovich
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers
All - Write Fiction Advice @blogspot.com (I'd post the link, but I'm not sure it's within forum rules to post links to outside websites)

I'm open to any suggestions or encouragement. If you want to check out my first story, click the link in my signature

Welcome to the madhouse. If ya ain't crazy when ya get here, you will be when you leave.

My best advice, is write and then write some more. Write for you. If you like it then some else probably will also.

English major, huh. Around my area that major means job prospects that mostly include the phrase "you want to supersize that?"

Welcome to Lit!

ETA: LOL, just registered it was a minor. What was your major?

Hiya, SylentWriter. Yes, a madhouse, but pretty entertaining all in all.

Kick back, relax, grab a drink or two and join the party. Write write write. What MP said.

Curious - what made you decide to get into creative writing, other than "why not?" ?

Welcome. :)

Many years ago, a mildly famous playwright read one of my early plays and agreed to meet me for 'a cup of tea'. (It turned out that his idea of a cup of tea was a large glass of Scotch. Followed by another large glass of Scotch.)

He said that my play was 'quite good - for a beginner'.

I asked him what I should do to get better. What should I read? What should I study?'

'D'you know how sprinters get the be better sprinters?' he asked.

'By doing lots of sprinting?' I suggested.

'Yep. That's pretty much it,' he said.

@leger I suppose I decided to start writing for three reasons: I like creating, I like learning, and I have an excess of sexual energy. I'm learning a lot in the process of writing these stories and I get a lot of satisfaction when I've completed something I think has some value to it. The stories also turn me on, which is an added bonus and incentive to keep writing.

@Sam Thanks for your advice. I will keep writing! I also really like your signature. I didn't understand when writers would say they never felt finished until I was getting ready to submit chapter 2 of my story. It's so easy to get lost while making so many decisions.
