Memorial Day

I know today is a day of remembering those that gave their lives so that the rest of us could have a chance at living in peace. But I also want to thank the families of those who lost someone. Thanks to those that, while they may have passed away after their years of service were completed, were still willing to answer the call.


I know not everyone on Lit feels this way, but I felt the need to put it out there for those on Lit who have lost someone or who have served. Thank you.

The additional tragedy for veterans who served in the Viet Nam and Iraq wars is that those wars were not necessary so that the rest of us could have a chance of living in peace. Neither the Viet Cong or Iraq's former president posed an existential threat to the U.S.

This does not mean that I do not feel great grief for my friends and relatives who were killed or injured in either of those wars, including my brother, but it does add to the tragedy and the grief. We tend to forget that inconvenient aspect in our remembrance, and just assume that every war fought by our country is justified in the name of American freedom. Not true.

I thought we had learned our lesson after Viet Nam, but the Iraq war proved me wrong. Memorial Day has become so much more complicated for my family because of these major mistakes.

Acquisition of land and resources.

Every one of those had something in the end for the people everyone can point to and say "THAT is why we went to war." Be it treasure or the beat down of an eminent threat.

What was Vietnam/Iraq for? Gubbmint contracts......blood welfare.

All we did was put on a dog and pony show so Halliburton and some other leeches could get rich as fuck billing us all stupid prices for unnecessary shit.

As a country we seem to find all sorts of purposes to go to war.

None of them quite as gross as a point blank MIC welfare program though.

The citizens got NOTHING except a bunch of dead/maimed kids and an ASTRONOMICAL bill. That's it.

No land....no oil.....no slaves....nothing. Those two wars were a pure butt fuck from the government/Military Industrial Complex.
